our first venue visit!!

On February 18, 2008, we checked out our first possible venue! It was exciting, and we did it on a whim. I was pleasantly surprised with my fiance's reaction to my suggestion on checking out a venue for our wedding.
It started with a bike ride. The Mountain-to-Sea trail is behind right by our apartment, so we took the mountain bikes out and headed towards the sea. We estimated that it would take us 12 miles to get there and 12 to get back. We did it! It wasn't that bad actually, although I did whine like a little baby the last 2 miles home. We biked from Irvine to Newport Beach!
So we get to Newport Backbay and I suggest we check out Newport Dunes. And Dee says "sure."
Here's us at our destination; we look dorky, but we're happy...in the gazebo overlooking Newport Backbay. It felt good! He had great ideas about the ceremony and the reception. It was so cute to see him participating in wedding planning! He imagined an outdoor ceremony, us being wed in the gazebo, and then a tented reception. There was a tent frame adjacent to the ceremony site.
Problem is...we don't know costs. I have a price list, but it's not very clear. I asked about putting up a tent for the reception, but the price she quoted sounded ridiculous!!! We didn't meet with anyone; this was our own excursion. I imagine this is how we'd prefer to look at venues...with no one else breathing down our necks pressuring us into making a decision right away. But I think we'll have to make an appointment with the site manager to discuss numbers...scary!
