Sex in the shower?

Q: Everytime we try to take a sexy shower together, it ends up being more awkward than sexy. Any tips?

A: Many people find showering together fun and having sex in the shower very exciting. There's something about bathing together that people find quite liberating. That said, you're absolutely right to find it quite tricky to enjoy shower sex -- you could slip.

Here are some suggestions for you: Make sure you've got a nonslip shower mat on the shower floor. Use those inflatable headrests that are made for leaning your head back in the bathtub (or the ones for airplane travel) to pad out any area you need to. For example, if you decide to kneel between his legs (with a light shower cascading down on both of you), use them to pad your knees. A rolled-up towel that you don't mind getting wet would work too.

People often have the most success when they use a standing position: You lean on the shower wall, facing it, and he stands behind you, entering you from behind. Always go easy with any position you choose. Start with a little foreplay and general caressing and kissing under the shower. If you're both feeling comfortable, take it further, but make sure his thrusting is gentle so you don't slip. You also might find it's best to get each other excited in the shower, and then dive onto your bed for full penetrative sex.
