The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

The Good

I found a house that I love! Well, Ok, like... like a lot... LOL.

Reasons why I like/love this house

  1. Good neighborhood
  2. 3 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms
  3. Fully redone everything, basically move in condition -- the guy even said he'd paint the master bedroom for us!
  4. Washer/Dryer (yes this may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but for me, not having to lug 10 loads of laundry to the laundrymat in GARBAGE bags [yes i did feel like trash myself that day] is priceless
  5. Fenced in backyard for the pups (not to mention a patio where we can put a BBQ)
  6. Central air (no comments needed on this one!)
  7. For a small sum of $300/yr they will do snow removal for you (do i sound lazy? but DH will be getting up for work at 5:30, when would he have time to shovel?)
  8. We can afford it! (i think, still gotta get in touch with my mortgage lady) and low taxes (only $5500/yr, whereas some of the other areas we were looking at were $7500/yr... BLECH!)
  9. 10 minutes away from DH future store, 50 minutes to work for me
  10. Near my family

Things I Don't Like about the house

  1. Its a duplex -- its like, hmmmm... take a big house, divide it in half, the left side would be ours, the right the neighbor, we have our own driveway, back yard separated by a fence, but we're still connected... so we're still limited in some of the outside stuff we can do. for instance, we can't paint our half a different color or anything...
  2. Its pretty close to the highway (i mean not close close, but kind of close)
  3. 50 min to work for me
  4. There is no formal dining room. we could either put the table in the eat in kitchen (which yes its a big size) or directly in the living room.

The Bad

Very short and simple. We haven't even finalized the paperwork to list our condo. i kid you not. THE DOG ATE IT. bad bad dog... but he's so darn cute how can you be mad at him...

The Guilty one

The UGLY

Actually the ugly isn't regarding this house, its just the number of UGLY houses we saw...my mother was "hunting" with me and commented on how most of these houses were not worth the money they were asking... we saw one with bright CLOWN red carpeting running thru half the house, another with 70s wallpaper everywhere, and another with wood paneling all over... it was seriously depressing... i didn't even really tell DH about those!

(argh, a total side note. i just spent all morning working on corrections to a newsletter, and just found out i worked on the wrong version! the other designer forgot to save the file to the network! sorry had to b!tch for a minute)

so yeah i'm hoping to find a house we love and can afford and can sell our place around the same time. i know it will happen and i just have to be patient but man it is hard sometimes. i know God has the living situation He thinks is best for us picked out, its just stressful waiting for it to happen. especially when i'm driving all over NJ to get DH to and from the store and myself to work... so i need lots of sell the house, buy a house prayers! LOL!

re: The Good, the Bad and the Uglyly

I think it is crazy listening to what people pay in taxes from one place to another.  We all live in so many places across the US.  And you said taxes that were good were $5,500 yr.  That kind of number would make my husband and I keel over.  The most expensive of houses we looked at was for a home in a very nice subdivision in St. Louis County.  3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, finished walk out basement one acre yard.  Formal Dining, Formal living, family room, breakfast room, huge kitchen, 4 season room, 2 wood burning fireplaces.  Hardwood throughout updated everything.  Taxes were only 2,000.  Isn't it crazy how much property values and taxes fluctuate from place to place.  My husband wants to move to California from Missouri.  I was like, "no, no, no, for the money we make, we have a nice life here, for the money we make now in CA, we could afford a nice box somewhere on a streetcorner."

I went and looked at your profile to see where you lived because Holy Taxes, Batman!  (And hey!  I have lots of family in NJ!  ^^;;)  I would seriously consider that commute, though.  Hello, gas!

And your dog is so lucky he's so cute to make up for his mischief!  Isn't it funny how animals just *know* things sometimes?  He must not want to move just yet, lol!

re: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Taxes in the area where I want to move to are about the same as what you listed.  That's what you'd pay for the best neighborhoods in my area, and I actually live in a very low cost of living area.  To pay less in taxes, I would not be as happy with the school district and would end up paying for private schooling, which would be about the same amount as if I had just paid a little more in taxes.

Good luck!
