A Baby Filled Weekend

This saturday was my friend j's baby shower. It was sooo nice, her sister did a lot of the planning and decorating and really outdid herself. It was actually probably the biggest shower i've ever been to (italian family) and the food was excellent. j looked adorable, love her baby bump, and there were 5 other pregs women there! all in different stages of pregnancy! it definitely made me want to be preg, but all in due time! She got such adorable stuff... even though she isn't finding out what the sex is, she still got some cute gender neutral outfits. My favorite gift though, was a series of bibs her sister made for her... Aunt G loves me, daddy's girl, my first halloween, stuff like that... but they were all personalized... very cute idea! i told my other girlfriend who i went with that i want j's sister to plan my baby shower when its time!

Other than that, on sunday i helped my other girlfriend sell "baby cakes for babies". Basically she started a team for the March of Dimes to help babies because her baby girl passed away at 17 days old this past December. I think its sooo great that she is able to channel her energy in doing good for others. I can't imagine that its easy for her, especially being surrounded by our friends who have or are having babies, but I think its amazing what she's doing. I still get so sad when I think about it, even though its been 3 months, and i didn't get to actually see the baby in person... i just wouldn't wish it on anyone. The funeral was the saddest, i dont think there was a dry eye in that church. With the tiniest casket, pink and white... ok let me stop, or all you girls are going to be crying reading this! Luckily she has a great support group of friends and family. I have managed to raise over $500 for her and we're walking at the end of April for the March of Dimes in her name. So far, she has raised a little over $11,000 for her cause. How amazing is that! I'm just so glad I can do what little i can to help out, not just for the cause but for her and our friendship.

So this post is dedicated to Ella Marie, may she rest in peace. With that, i'm going to have a baby cake (cupcake) in her honor!

re: A Baby Filled Weekend

I hate baby caskets.  Anyone who has ever been to the funeral of a baby knows that the tiny little casket is the most haunting thing you will ever see in your life.  You just see one and know in your heart that it just isn't right that it should even be possible for a life to flicker out that soon.  I hope that she is happy and at peace in God's arms.  I always donate to the March of Dimes.  Very few causes prove to be as worthy.  I won a raffle last year.  Bought $100 dollars worth or tickets, won $1,500, and donated that back to the March of Dimes.  I am so happy that I won it.  I didn't want anyone except babies to get that money.

That's so sad.  My best friend's older sister lost her baby at 3 months to the vague "crib death" explanation.  It was a very sad funeral.  I'm sorry your friend had to go through that, and it is great she's able to turn that sadness into doing good for others.
