Yesterday was a strange day. No one specific thing made it strange ... it was a combo.
No. 1: I left work to meet Adam at the bank to open our money market account for the wedding checks. We received a check from my bubbe for Chanukah, but we couldn't seem to get to the bank before then. And then, in typical Murphy's Law fashion, I couldn't find the check (which I swore I had put in my purse). Later I found it -- of course -- in my purse. It was in a card inside an envelope I asked Adam to open and he hadn't opened it the whole way.
No. 2: After swearing up and down that we wouldn't be able to afford a Disney Cruise until 2010, Adam did some number crunching and found out if we put aside $100 a month each, we'd have enough to go in spring 2009.
No. 3: Before meeting Adam I stopped at Coffee Bean for a pick-me-up. I went to sit outside to enjoy my coffee and read my latest "what to do before you get married" book … and was stalked by a squirrel -- who at one point creeped up to my shoe. I was so startled that I kicked my foot out and scared him (he ran away).
No. 4: My ex-fiancé instant messaged me to tell me he and his new wife (my fiancé’s former girlfriend) bought a house and were moving. The whole thing was odd because 1) how bored was he? and 2) what kind of person contacts their ex while their wife is in the next room (he's done it before -- twice)? During the course of a five-minute conversation he brought up: the stepmother I hate, the honeymoon we were supposed to take and that he didn't understand what I did at my job (I'm a copy editor -- it isn't a hard concept).
No. 5: To end a strange day (compounded by not being able to sleep) I watched the "Little Girl Lost" episode of "The Twilight Zone." I've always wanted to see it because you can hear the girl crying in the line of the Tower of Terror. Kind of creepy episode, but I'm glad I saw it.
Looking back, maybe it wasn't that strange a day, after all ... I DO live in L.A.
