The adventures of Jewish newlywed navigating through the wonderful world of married life.

Ha-Ha Chanukah

Posted Monday, December 03, 2007 2:52 AM

Girl meets Boy. They date. They fall in love. They get married. They have to confront their first holiday as a married couple and enjoy all the insanity that goes with it.

Between in-laws, grandparents, siblings, parents' significant others, cousins and friends -- we have more people on our Chanukah list than the Bradys, Waltons and Gilbreths combined. The Festival of Lights, which begins at sundown Tuesday, might as well be called the Festival of Please God Let Us Not Have Left Anyone Off Our List.

We were luckily able to start checking people off a few weeks ago. Thanks to gift cards, amazon and some VERY spread out celebrations, I think we'll be OK. The list is dwindling. I already bought Adam's gifts; he's shopping for mine tomorrow.

In addition to the gifting -- we have parties.... and parties ... and parties. I've purchased the items to make a batch of cupcakes and two pans of chocolate chip bars. Adam is in charge of picking up the veggies (so we can break in our new tray)

We'll be with my family Friday night; we'll be with our havurah Saturday; we'll be with Adam's family Sunday; and my sisterhood has its party Monday -- plus there are our respective work parties and "after Chanukah" party when my father and sister come in. And, of course, the Chanukah fest we both worked today; and the sisterhood giftwrapping I did this evening at Barnes & Noble).

And, of course, we still have the wedding gifts that need to be put away somewhere (I will be so happy when I don't have to write that sentence anymore).

Eight nights? I wish.Confused

re: Ha-Ha Chanukah

Fun entry, Shoshie.

As a non-Jew (aka Christian), I enjoy what it's really like celebrating Chanukah!

DH and I read a Chanukah book last night....and appreciated learning the deeper meaning than just lighting lights.  Enjoy!
