Cleaning House

Posted Thursday, December 20, 2007 6:10 PM

Today, for the first time since I’ve become mistress of Pemberly, the corridors are spotless.
OK. I don’t live at Pemberly and am not married to Fitzwilliam Darcy, but for the first time in a long time, we have a housecleaner who not only knows what she’s doing, but doesn’t break things in the process (as DH’s other housecleaner managed to do every time she came over).
Since I had to come into the office early, Adam worked from home today and showed S the ropes, like what we’d like cleaned (pretty much everything) and what she could avoid (the bedroom where we moved all the boxes from the living room). We put together a bucketful of cleaning supplies – who knew we had a dustpan?
S also gets to break in our new Hoover vacuum (a wedding/shower present from MIL’s cousins), which I was able to manuver from its home in the corner of our “present pile” (although where we will put it now I have no idea).
Adam said the house smells clean – I love when that happens!
I joke to our friends that our estate will be ready for parties in a fortnight. In actuality I’m just glad that our home is starting to feel like home. Yes
