Dear Diary
By Lori
Pregnancy means change. Your emotions change, your body changes, and from the minute you pee on that stick, you realize how much your life is going to change. Every day on this journey, there are exciting things to discover (like the first time you hear your baby's beating heart) and some not-so-exciting things (gee, I could swear these pants fit yesterday... really, they did...).
After four months, time seems to be going by so quickly. While I haven't felt my baby kick yet and don't even know it's gender, I already feel like we've hit some milestones of change together -- making it through the first trimester, getting offered a seat on the train, and consuming what seems like the 100th grilled cheese sandwich I've eaten for lunch.
I don't want to forget these moments, so I started writing a journal to my baby. I don't mean like, "I weigh X pounds today and I am in X week of pregnancy" type of stuff. I write "conversations" to him or her several times a week, and talk about how I'm feeling physically and mentally, express my frustration in not yet knowing the gender (I wanna start shopping already!), and tell it silly things like how Daddy read that baby can now sense light and so he shines the flashlight directly on my belly and asks, "You think it's moving?" I think it'll be wild to have our kid read this years from now and experience our wacky -- yet wonderful -- journey.
If you'd like to start writing to your own baby or encourage another mama-to-be to do the same thing, check these out:
