It's happening again
by Katie
It's fantasy football season again and my husband's draft is this weekend. And as much as I love seeing him so excited, the end of summer is even more painful for the mere fact that I have to overhear so much football talk. And Sundays! I don't even want to think about how much football I'm going to have to watch. What about my Grey's Anatomy re-runs? Or SNL that I TiVo Saturday nights and watch Sunday morning? I love to lie on the couch and do my own thing on Sundays -- and this is a very rude interruption (we have one main TV and live in a tiny apt).
But I have found some ways to make this a little more fun for me:
- Betting the games: if I have money on the line I'm a lot more interested. But since losing money makes me bummed for days, I think I'll make this more about who gets to pick the next restaurant we go to.
- Tuning it out: Just because men are pushing each other around on the TV and grunting doesn't mean I have to watch or leave the house. I can still lounge on the couch with DH -- but I'll read magazine or a book and tune out all the crazy people around me (even the one I married).
- Get a little involved: Every time DH can't make up his mind on which players to play each week, he'll ask me. I know what you're thinking: why me since I obviously have no interest? I thought the same thing. But this year, I'll play along. So whenever he asks me if he should go with Randy Moss or Michael Pittman (these were the two bad move players on his team last year. The right answer would have been neither), I'll go with my gut instinct and then have a little more interest in how my choices played.
But just in case these don't work, I can always leave for a mani-pedi outing or stop by my girl friends' place.
Cheers to another season :)
