A Nest Editor's Husband Confesses

By Lori (and her DH, Matthew)

After reading the likes and gripes article about spouse's habits you can live without, I decided to invite my DH to post with me this week and reveal some of my habits that annoy him. I did so thinking there wouldn't be that many... but, um, apparantly I was wrong! DH jumped in excitement at the chance to reveal my imperfections. Here are his top three:

"Wife, half the kitchen counter is covered in your unopened mail. It's not your desk, you have a desk... it's the piece of furniture covered in stacks of your opened mail."

"What the heck do you have in your wallet? It was flat, now the zipper barely closes -- why is it so dense? You are carrying around a pink leather brick. It had better be all cash (not single bills, either!). I think you need to take me shopping."

"After I fall asleep, do you jog in bed? How is it possible for one (small-ish) woman to twist up the sheets like that? I'm afraid that if I yank them back i will launch you out of the bed like a corkscrew."

...For the record, I can't stand it when DH puts dishes in the sink that still have food on them. The trash can is 8 inches from the sink, yet he doesn't scrape the plate clean. Argh! He's lucky he's cute. We know we aren't the only happy couple who can make each other crazy sometimes. What habits do you and your DH have that drive each other nuts?

re: A Nest Editor's Husband Confesses

These posts are so fun because there are either things he does that don't annoy me but annoy other people, or things that I do that I never thought of as annoying! My pet peves: 1. He leaves toenail clippers on the coffee table all the time, and sometimes his actual clippings 2. He won't just sit and hang out with me, the TV has to be on or he is on the computer, or cleaning (he is the neat freak, not me) 3. He snores... but if I am honest it is really the fact that he falls asleep within a minute of his head hitting the pillow, and then begins to snore. I am still contemplating the day, worrying about something, or going over a fight we had. I get annoyed (and jealous!) at the fact that he can just fall asleep, no matter what. And then he starts to snore which keeps me up even longer. 4. He doesn't make the bed - although he is getting better about making it and I am getting better about not saying something on the rare occasions he forgets His pet peves of me: 1. I hate to put up my clean clothes, I leave them out on the chest in our room 2. My desk is messy with papers everywhere. He is always trying to clean it up while I am gone 3. In the morning when I fix my coffee I leave my empty splenda packets on the counter 4. I am very forgetful, and I forget to do things like get my oil changed, charge my cell phone, refil my prescriptions, and get things at the store. He really has a lot more to complain about with me then I do with him!

Him: -He leaves all the cabinet doors wide open! -Making 'funny' comments during Greys Anatomy or any other show, especially if it is dramatic and I am crying. -Waiting for the last minute to change lanes. - Leaving dirty clothes on the floor, right next to the hamper. Me: - It drives him nuts when I don't put CD's or DVD's in the right case. - That I want super clean floors -That I just don't stop doing stuff around the house and sit next to him.

I think the best way to display his "special" habits is in a bulleted list: -- He decided that our future child, must be a boy, because he's currently painting "his office" room in light blue with an accent brown wall. And repainting is out of the question! -- He rips off his toe nails with his fingers instead of using... umm.. a nail clipper. -- Washing dishes is out of the question, even though we currently moved into a place with a dishwasher. -- He leaves his socks/sleeping clothes near the bed and "forgets" to put it in the laundry bin every single day. I almost feel bad listing these special habits out like this.. but hey after almost 9 years we are still together :)

Oh dear, this is a danger zone ... His most annoying habit using incorrect grammar when he speaks. "We was" just drives me bonkers ... He also holds his eating utensils wrong (yes there is a correct and an incrorrect way), and I cant stand to watch him eat that way. The only annoying habit I know that annoys him is when I correct his grammar ... I'm sure there are tons more, he's just not vocal about them, like I am of his. Have a lovely day!
