Too old to dress up?

by Katie

I'm back from the business trip, and lucky for DH, I was on my best behavior! Thanks for your hilarious stories -- you made me feel a lot better about my own ridiculousness.

So now that we're back to our normal lives, we've got Halloween on the horizon... and sadly, we don't have any plans yet. But honestly, I always feel a little weird dressing up. Like, one year, DH and I went to a last-minute party and I had to throw a costume together in an hour. So I overloaded the eye-liner, put on a short skirt, button-down shirt, necktie, and #*!-kicker boots, and called myself Avril Lavigne. I was so proud of myself until we got to the party and I saw all these girls in barely-there hottie outfits -- And I looked like a MAN! It was just like that scene in Mean Girls when Lindsay's character realizes that Halloween is just an excuse for girls to dress slutty.

Ever since that party, I've been pretty unenthusiastic about Halloween. But for the past two years, I've had fun coming up with couples costume ideas for The Nest. There really are some great ones (if I do say so myself). They're definitely more funny than slutty, but I think all options could be vamped up for some sex appeal (so no one has my Avril experience).

The thing about Halloween is that it's so fun to see your friends in costume. One year, my macho football player friend put angel wings on his back and called himself a "wing man." But all the girls thought he was a fairy. He was so annoyed.

These types of memories still make me laugh, and that's the point of this holiday, right -- to get out of your comfort zone and act silly and young again?

What are your thoughts and plans for Halloween -- any great costumes in the works? If you're stumped, one of these couples costumes might really work.

re: Too old to dress up?

You're NEVER too old to dress up ; ) And you certainly don't have to dress like a *** if you don't want to. Clever or fun costumes are the most memorable, anyway. Think about it, if 90% of the girls are dressed like strippers then who's even going to remember who came as what? Dress how you want, have a blast, and enjoy the season to it's fullest!
