Project: Decorate!

By Jeanine

My Thanksgiving was great! It was just the break I needed. I feel refreshed and energized and totally ready to tackle the holidays. My best friend and I have already started planning a holiday shindig for all our friends at her apartment – we’ve orchestrated this whole under $20 Secret Santa gift exchange, so I am excited to see how it turns out. Plus, we’re only serving drinks and desserts, so my friends is making this sangria and I will be making a few of these sweets.

I have also decided to go all out and decorate my apartment. I live by myself in small studio, so most people think I’m crazy for even wasting my time (and $$), but I just don’t think I would feel right with no decorations. Part of the reason I love this time of year is the tinsel and the lights and all that stuff. So not only am I putting lights up and getting something festive to put on my door, I am also getting a Christmas tree – a real one! Probably not full-sized, but I will be scouring the city this weekend looking for the perfect little pine to place in front of my fireplace (don’t worry, it doesn’t work:). None of my friends can believe that I am actually doing this, so my tree may turn out to be quite the spectacle. I have no problem with that, though, since it will be decked out with these fabulous little Juicy Couture ornaments I just bought and white lights. But do you think it’s weird for me to put be putting up a tree or even decorating at all? I’m not hosting or anything, so there won’t be any big occasion for people to come see my decorations – I’m really just doing it because I like it. Anyways, I’ve resolved to stay stress-free this holiday and you should, too. Enjoy the season!

You are not crazy! I did the same thing before I got married. Who cares if anyone will see it if it makes you happy? I personally love Christmas and have a huge collection of Nutcrackers that would practically take over my tiny apt., but it was fun, so go for it.

re: Project: Decorate!

I totally did the same thing two years ago. I had a little two bedroom apartment in the PA Lake-Effect Snow Belt, and I decked the halls to the max. I donned the front and back porches with lights, garland, and wreaths and set the house aglow with christmas candles, decorations, and my all-important live tree by the fireplace. Everyday, I would walk in, and suddenly my empty apartment woud feel alive with love and excitement even though I lived there alone. When you live alone, it's very important to create a warm and inviting space that makes you feel loved, even when it's void of others. So, I say, whether anyone is going to see it or not, enjoy your holiday and nurture your spirt--Christmas Tree Style!
