Show me your living rooms!

By Heather

My favorite message board is the "Your Home" board. I check it daily and really enjoy looking at people's homes, projects, and great decorating advice! I wish I had time to post there myself -- the people there are always helpful and very nice. I'm hoping some of them are reading this blog!

We're in the process of redecorating our living room. The largest wall in the room used to have floor to ceiling mirrors on it which we had removed and replaced with sheetrock. We have ripped out our carpet and installed Pergo flooring -- which was actually a lot easier to do than we thought it would be and the results are amazing. We have a new area rug, and we had our molding around the windows replaced and painted it all white. We're planning on painting the room a color called "Chocolate Froth" by Bear -- it's a neutral taupe color. On the windows we plan on hanging cranberry colored panels with white shades on the windows themselves.

The one thing I can't figure out is what to do with a giant wall that is behind the couch. Now that the mirrors are down it is completely bare. The couch does not rest against the wall, so there is about four feet from the back of the couch to the wall. I was thinking of maybe a sofa table behind the couch... or maybe some kind of photo ledges like what is in the latest Nest Magazine -- but I can't figure out whether there should be one long one, or many staggered ones.

So I need inspiration. Show me your living room decor ideas and photo ledges!

Depending on the type of couch you have, you have two options that will work well with any room. If the back of the couch is strait, I would say get a console table and put some hurricanes, large vases, or whatever fits your decor on there (you can also change these out with the seasons which works well) and then mount a large mirror above it all on that wall. If it is flush against the wall, mount a couple of large pritns above it. Like the room view of this: http://www.crateandbarrel.com/family.aspx?c=931&f=10906 If the back of the couch is curved in any way I would say to mount a very long ledge over top and mount large prints/pictures/accesories. Here is a good example of that: http://www.potterybarn.com/gift/thm/thmlrx/index.cfm I always look through magazines /online of my favorite stores (that are most like my taste) for inspiration. I have always found it the best way. Good luck with everything!
