I want to be a French Woman!
By Heather
I had a terrible experience at the store last weekend. Nothing I tried on fit right! I felt completely dejected. To make matters worse, I was trying to pull together an outfit for a bridal shower I had to go to, and the dress I was planning on wearing was too tight -- as were the backup pants I haven't worn in a year. What happened to me? Why isn't anything fitting?
I hate the scale. I try to stay away from it, but I needed to know just how bad things have gotten since the last time I hopped on it. 10 pounds. I have gained 10 pounds over the past 8 months. No wonder everything is getting a little snug. It's time to take some corrective action!
It seems I'm not the only one in the office trying to shed some weight in time for Spring. A lot of the girls have their strategies and plans to lose weight. Some are joining gyms and increasing their workouts. Others are drinking more water and cutting back on carbs. I'm trying to find my own plan -- something that isn't just a "quick-fix" but an overall lifestyle change. The last thing I want to do is lose weight an then gain it all back again.
I picked up French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure. It reads more like a novel than a "diet book" and I've gotten through the first section where it describes the overall concept and how to start. The first part, which sounds easy, is to write down everything you eat for three weeks. No calorie counting, just documenting your typical routine so that after the three weeks you can figure out patterns and bad habits and where you need to make adjustments. This is so much easier said than done! I am finding after just three days of writing things down, that I eat mindlessly, without paying attention -- usually because I'm working or commuting and I just don't have time -- so I grab whatever is easily available. Writing it down has forced me to start paying attention, which I think is a good first step.
Have any of you read this book? Did you do try the "Miracle Soup"? What are some of your tips for eating healthier while on the go?
