Movin' On Up...

By Jeanine

It must be that time of year or maybe it’s contagious, but moving is definitely in the air, especially here at The Nest. Katie blogged about moving yesterday, Kristen is moving in March, and our boss just bought a house. Like many of my coworkers, I, too, am moving -- this weekend, in fact. I am going from the cute (read: small) studio apartment I have lived in since graduating college to a one-bedroom that’s more than twice as big and I am SO excited.

Don’t get me wrong -- moving is definitely stressful. Between going back and forth with the landlord and the current tenant to working with my own landlord all on top of packing, there have been plenty of times where I just wanted to say forget it, I’ll just stay where I am. But the thought of having so much more space -- a dining room, a bedroom, a walk-in closet! -- is too alluring to just walk away from despite the seemingly endless relocating annoyances.

What I am most excited about, though, is finally getting off my sofa bed. My couch is beautiful -- vintage, soft tan leather -- but the bed part of it, not so much, and not so comfortable. It’s by no means terrible, but a sofa bed just doesn’t compare to a real bed. Since I’ve never actually purchased a bed before, I am using this mattress article to help me. Do any of you have any mattress-hunting tips? What about general moving tips? Somehow I managed to get a lot of stuff in my tiny apartment, so I am afraid going from one apartment to the other is going to get very disorganized and chaotic. Any suggestions for keeping some semblance of order?

Thanks for sharing the mattress article. My DH and I are dying to get rid of the futon mattress we have been sleeping on! Moving tips....label boxes, try to pack the rooms in its own separate box, for example, your bedroom stuff in a bedroom box, it will make unpacking easier, check craigslist to see if anyone is giving away packing material or boxes, try to keep a sense of humor, have a bottle of wine ready to celebrate your new place when you move in!!!
