Could this really be possible?
By Jeanine
So yesterday I went to the doctor to get tested for diabetes. A few months back, I was explaining these weird things that had been happening to me and my doc suggested I have the test. I put it off at first, due in part to the fact that I HATE needles, but when the symptoms didn’t go away, I decided I better find out. So I got my blood drawn yesterday (ouch!) and now I can’t stop worrying about the results. No one in my immediate family has it, but both of my paternal grandparents had it and my cousin was also recently diagnosed. What if I have diabetes?!
Well, like any normal person, I turned to the internet. I did some research to try to put my fears to rest (at least a little) and found out that life with diabetes is actually quite manageable. I’d have to adjust my diet big-time, which does kind of stink, but that’s nowhere near as drastic as what I thought it meant to live with this disease.
So now I am not as worried about it, but I still think it’s so bizarre that I could have diabetes and have gone so long without knowing. According to my PCP, though, there are tons of undiagnosed cases. That’s pretty scary considering how serious it can get. So I wanted to link you all up with the American Diabetes Association. I’m not saying you should get all paranoid and hypochondriac on us, but if other people in your family have had it or if you’re having weird symptoms like going to the bathroom A LOT or always being thirsty, it’s at least worth checking out.
I get my test results next Tuesday, so I’ll be sure to keep you all posted. Wish me luck!
PS: If you’ve already been diagnosed with diabetes, you should check out this new cookbook we just added to the recipe tool. It’s perfect for you
