What Are You Doing To Go Green?
As crazy as it sounds, right now my BIL is riding cross-country on a vegetable oil powered bus. He is a marketing representative for NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School) and is on tour to college campuses across the country to educate students about alternative energy sources.
I have to admit I had some giggles over this bus when I first heard about it (visions of Mazzola-less supermarkets in each town they roll through), but I've been thinking about it more and more since Earth Day is coming up on April 22. As a nation we really do need to "go green" in an urgent way, and people are finally starting to realize it. Even The Knot now has a whole area on green weddings.
I don't consider myself an environmentalist, but lately DH and I have been thinking about simple ways we can contribute to a cleaner planet. By swapping out standard light bulbs for energy-saving compact flourescents, we will use 25% less energy and the bulbs will last 10 times as long. We can give up store shopping bags and reuse a canvas bag instead. We can make donations to causes trying to stop global warming. We can apply for a credit card like Working Assets that donates money to environmental causes with every purchase we make. We can do something as simple as planting a tree.
What are Nesties doing to celebrate Earth Day? Have you made changes in your lifestyle to "go green?"
