Because I can't even boil an egg...

It's summer time (finally!) and that means family barbecues. We have a collection of family recipes that have been passed down through the generations and these summer barbecues are the perfect occasion to bring out the family favorites.

One of my favorites is deviled eggs. The problem I have (being cooking-challenged) is that I lack the patience to babysit the pot of eggs to make sure the boiling time is correct for perfect hard-boiled eggs. Yes, I have trouble making a hard-boiled egg, I admit it!

I found this fabulous kitchen gadget over at Williams-Sonoma. The Electric Egg Cooker is easy to use and automatically times the cooking for soft, medium, hard and even poached eggs. Just put in the correct amount of water, add your eggs, cover, flick the switch and it beeps when it's done. Voila!

Now even I can make Grandma Henken's famous deviled eggs without having to watch the pot!

Looking for more party-pleaser recipes? Maybe if I'm daring I'll try one of these... but only if I get a cool gadget to make it easier.

The best egg-boiling tip I ever found was: Cover eggs with water, bring to a boil, turn off the heat and put a lid on. 15 minutes later drain the water off and that's it. I found a timer prevents me from losing track of the 15 mins.

It is so funny that you posted that! I got an Egg cooker for a wedding gift from someone who claimed it was the best thing since sliced bread.  I thought to myself "When am I ever going to use that?  Besides, how easy is it to boil an egg in a pot."  My curiosity got to me tonight and I decided to try it out, since I knew I could never return the thing becuase my gift giver would ask how much I loved it, and I can't lie.  But, I was very impressed! It cooked the eggs fast and I loved the timer feature.  The ahrd boiled eggs make a great snack high in protein. I can't wait to make deviled aggs and egg salad.
