Date-night Dos

I've found that one of the best ways for us to stay in sync is to make date night happen once a week. I'm not talking about laundry on Wednesday night when we both lug our clothes down to the Wash 'n Dry. I'm talking about "set the Tivo and do something completely out of the ordinary" date night.

Some of our most successful dates include Scrabble and spaghetti night; wine bar and live jazz night; and of course, the old staple, dinner and indie movie night (the trick is instead of going to the theater around the corner, we go to the independent movie theater to catch a flick that no one else is talking about).

We're always looking for fresh ideas to keep it fun, so I was excited when I stumbled upon this book, 102 Great Dates for Any Budget in our office library. Some ideas are a little more obvious than others (Mexican food night? We do that every week), but a few of them caught my eye.

My favorite: The Arcade Date. Fill your pockets with quarters and mosey on down to the local mall or amusement park arcade gallery. Play pinball, race cars, and try your hand at Skee-Ball. Order up the cheesiest nachos, juiciest hot dogs, and an extra large Cherry Coke.

Have other good date-night ideas? Share 'em with me!

re: Date-night Dos

We got a deck of 100 NYC walks (each on its own card) for a wedding present, since we were moving here three weeks later.  It's been fun to randomly select a card and hop on the train.  (And very convenient if we have guests on a work-day.)

And for those of you who don't live in New York, I think the publisher has done decks for all the major U.S. (and world) cities.
