Couple Costumes: Cute or Lame?

Happy Halloween! Now, I have to admit, having Halloween on a Wednesday has totally messed me up this year. I haven't been in the Halloween spirit, and, admittedly, don't have a costume. But if I did....well, my husband and I always talk about going as Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio. But I can't decide if it would be cute or lame.

I have seen some couple costumes done really well -- Mary Ann & Gilligan and Andre Agassi & Steffi Graf in the '80s come to mind. But what do you think? Couple costumes: yay or nay? If yay, do you have any good ideas?

The most hilarious couples costume I saw this year was a guy dressed as Super Mario and his wife as Princess Toadstool. I also know someone who dressed up as a plastic surgery candidate with ink marks all over her and her husband was Dr. 90210, with an overly tanned face and a dark wig...they got tons of laughs. I say bust out the Marilyn and Joe.

I think they're cute and can be really funny. My friends went as Little Red Riding Hood and the Woodsman. My fiance and I are going as Batman and Robin -- him from the newest movie and me from the old Adam West era.

CUTE!! We went as Popeye and Olive Oyl. We got a ton of compliments and everything was in our closets except a sailor cap and a black wig for me! We also had an Indiana Jones and a "damsel in distress".

re: Couple Costumes: Cute or Lame?

My DH and I actually met on Halloween at a costume party, so it's something we've always wanted to do in some way, shape or form.

The first year, he wanted to do a couples' costume because we were going to the Village Halloween Parade, followed by a costume party. He decided to dress as Han Solo, without informing me that it would mean a lot to him if I'd dress as Princess Leia. But he decided to go in another direction for my costume . . . we put together a Huntress costume (the Huntress is a DC comics badass, kind of obscure) complete with high heeled boots. At the parade, my feet had had it with walking (heels are not recommended) and he kept telling me how much easier a time I would have had if I'd just dressed as Leia.

I had no idea he wanted to do a "couples" costume because he didn't outright say so and I didn't want to dress as Leia. . .the most easily identified outfit is that horrendous white gown she wears at the start of Episode IV(!) and the cinnabun hairstyle (which, of course, would have required a wig). He'd also suggested her "rebel commander" outfit from Return of the Jedi as well as the skirt & top she wore at the Ewok village. . .but then I'm just some dope in a skirt. Lastly, he dared to suggest the slave outfit from both Empire Strikes Back and Jedi . . . no, sorry, not with my body.

The following year, I stuck with my comfort level - witch. Completely covered up (whew!) and I didn't dress up last year or this year.

He's determined to do something next year - Halloween is on a Friday(!) - but he'd best tell me early enough so I can start getting the props!
