The Milkman and His Wife

We'll call this the "intro post." LOL! It's pretty much a given when starting a blog, right? I think so! So who are the Milkman and his wife? Well, they started out as strangers, from two completely different worlds, who just happen to have the same affinity for dollar bottle Thursday nights at a local campus dive at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She spent too much time there, he spent probably not quite enough. Sounds like the perfect balance to me! The rest, as they say, is history.

Well, the Milkman is named such due his upbringing on a small, family-owned dairy farm in rural southern Illinois. Get it, cows, milk?? The Milkman! :) He is my F-150 driving, Johnny Cash listening, bow hunting, gear turning, flannel shirt wearing, corn fed farm boy. A country mouse through and through. It just so happens he is also brillant, articulate, creative, an amazing leader, the hardest worker I've ever seen, and the most caring and generous person I've ever met. He's a total engineer, obsessed with how things work, why they don't work, and how he can make them work. He's also pretty darn cute. And funny!

Since May 2006, I've been the Milkman's Wife! I'm a suburban girl, born and raised in the northwest 'burbs of Chicago. I am a mall-trolling, bargin hunting, shoe loving, reality tv watching, chick lit reading, Martha Stewart wanna-be. For my day job, I work in crazy, outrageous, pull your hair out stressful world of agency PR. Many a night and weekend I spend putting in extra time. I work...all the time! Although he does too, so it kind of works out. When I do have a spare moment, I'm usually in the kitchen cooking and baking up treats and goodies to test out on my hubby. It's my time to relax, and Milkman doesn't mind it much either.

About 3 years ago we both left home and relocated to a new state for Milkman's job. We now live in a small (or big, I guess, depending on which one of us you ask!) city in northeast Iowa. Total culture shock for me! No traffic, no restaurants, no H&M! What's a suburban girl to do?? We are relatively happy here, but after three years we are both looking forward to making our way back to Illinois. We want to be closer to our families when we start having one of our own!

So I guess I'm just going to use this space to chronicle the hits and misses of newlywed life. We've all got 'em. I once screamed at the Milkman over who was going to go out and get the mail. I promise not to bore anyone with my irrational outbursts! We've had mostly hits over the last year and half, and I'm sure there will be many more! Peace!
