Winter Wasteland

Back on Decmeber 1, we made a terrible mistake. There was a pretty decent ice storm...coated our driveway with about half an inch of ice. Well, we got busy doing what it is we do and we never took care of it. Never salted, never tried to break it up. Basically, we got lazy and never took care of it.
Fast-forward two months to February. After 60 plus days of snow, cold, more snow, really really freakish cold, and even more snow, the amount of ice packed down on our driveway is...ridiculous! I'm beginning to think it will be June before it melts off. It's so bad now, we physically cannot fix it. It's impossible! When it snows, DH can't use his riding lawn mower with snowblower attachment because all he does is slide around out there. We literally drive DOWN into our garage. DOWN a slope of winterness and into the garage. It's awful!
So DH hatched a plan...wait until the neighbor is out with his walk-behind snowblower and go out there with the traditional shovel, look like he's really struggling and hope to appeal to the neighbor's good nature so they come over and offer to let DH use the snowblower. Ha...I'm tellin' you, he has no shame.
Well, what do you know...it worked! Good job, DH! So the latest layer of 6 or 8 inches of snow is gone...but alas, two months of packed down ice remains. I don't know how much more of this I can take!
