Snow + Sissy's-flight-landing-at-9pm + Mom-and-Daddy-picking-her-up = a bunch of people I love very much in a vehicle late at night on slick roads together...

meaning I will be worried as hell all day and night....

My parents, the other half of my egg, AND her in-utero child all on dicey roads? This is prime territory for textbook todds_wife panic... I am a "worst case senerio" kind of thinker... for goodness sakes, I was the little kid who always ordered ice cream in a cup, because all I could see in my mind was it falling off the cone and me being sad....

Sissy's u/s yesterday showed a very strong perfect 7 week pregnancy!! I am beside myself with joy (and a little worry, I admit)

My best friend is actually also expecting,and just about as far along as sis, after miscarrying around the same time as my sissy, and I have to force myself not to think about it all most of the time, I get all overcome with happieness, and then worry, and then just overcome, and get weepy and freaky... Seriously, I feel like Steve Martin in Father of the Bride two or something... I just love these two women ( and their amazing H's) so much -and I want everything good and wonderful for them, just as they deserve... I just watch and pray and dream all the time for them...

Come on snow... just stop early... why today?

Today is going to be a long day...

Christmas Decorating and Cards DONE!!

Actually, they were done by the Sunday after Thanksgiving and I am so proud of myself!! Especially considering H decided he wanted to give me one of my presents early so we could enjoy it.. I thought it was going to be my Darius Rucker CD or something small... He made me wait in the guest room so he could put it under the tree and when I came out I was shocked to find the Wii and Wii Fit...

Needless to say, we wooped up on eachother at various Wii sports (bowling is most competive around The Treehouse thus far) and I Hoola Hooped and yoga-ed my way to extreme core muscle soreness on the Fit! (OW!)

My Mii looks like Cyndi Vortex with big black glasses (bonus bloggy points to anyone who knows who that is!)

But even with the distraction, I managed to get everything decorated, and the last few cards addressed (I actually did most of those the week before Thankgiving while watching the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving specials... BTW, had any one seen that second one they showed about the Mayflower crossing before?)

And this weekend is our holiday open house - which means I had better post the menu, etc on my cooking blog... and that it will be a busy week... I can do a lot of prep ahead of time, and H has been in full on (even more than typical) hyper-cleaning mode getting things ready... (he's so cute when he is obsessive...)

And tonight - I think it is time to polish serving pieces and enjoy the network showing of "Santa Clause is Coming to Town"!

(We have to distract ourselves, because we have a two game bowling limit per night.. we both have Wii bowling injuries!)

So this weekend I went to see Zack and Miri with a girlfriend... two things to keep in mind - 1. I NEVER go to the theater.. seriously, it is like only when new Harry Potter movies come out... 2. I had no desire to see this movie - I love me some Kevin Smith, but I thought I could do without this one...

I am so glad I saw it - at its core is is probably the sweetest story he has ever told..

All that being said - the best song BY FAR in a movie of pretty amazing music is a song by Live called "Hold Me Up"... it is as powerful and sweeping and amazing as anything Ed and the boys have ever recorded... I had to have it..

Except, as it turns out, it was a demo recorded for Throwing Copper, and it didn't make the cut... and it isn't on the Soundtrack... Goodness knows how Kevin Smith even found it, but it is effing amazing... Can't buy it anywhere kiddies - but check it out here on youtube:

Stupid walls...

We have lath and plaster walls... METAL lath.. over concrete... true, plaster walls have an amazing finish, but it is awful trying to hang anything more complicated than a picture..

Add to that the 15 and half ft stretch of glass doors we have in our main room and window coverings become an all-consuming nighmare...

::sigh:::

Last year for my birthday I ripped down the tacky vertical blinds and convinced H to buy me hardware and supplies for DIY panels, but the only way I could find to cover that much window was to use two rods... so there is a space in the middle when you close the drapes... The hardware is concealed by a valence-type-thing I errected, but it looked REALLY DIY...

So I re-did everything this week, using the same hardware, store bought drappery panels, and another really complex DIY valance-thing involving a cut up drape panel and poster board... 188 inches long!!

It looks better -still have the space in between when we close them (which is never in front of anyone else, just to block the sun in the morning in our east facing room)...

Still, sometime in the future I am sure I will give up the dream of ever solving the problem by myself and just break down and hire someone to come in and drill anchors into the concrete and hang a nice big rod to cover the whole expanse...

Maybe they can hang some floating shelves while they are at it - even I am smart enough to know what a mess it would be to try and do that!

Dammn mid century modern architecture.... tasteful, but un-drillable...

My twin sissy is pregnant again!!! And this time they know about the blood disorder, so she is able to take extra steps to insure a H&H 9 months for her and the baby!!!! Amen, amen, a thousand times amen!!

And my prayers are renewed and answered all at once... for sissy and BIL and their baby... for the next 8 months just to hold each breath I take as a prayer for this life that is so very loved and so very, very wanted....

Dear sweet baby... your family loves you dearly...Your mom is the most amazing person I have ever known... I was blessed to know her from the very begining of my being, and until now I have considered myself the luckiest person on earth to have had her, always, in my life... but now you share the title with me, because you too will have had her, every moment from the very begining, in yours... So grow and strenghen and thrive, little one - you are in the best care... She shared a womb with me, so I know she will be wonderful sharing hers with you...

And again, I say amen...

YAY for holiday entertaining!!

Every year right after Thanksgiving we host a holiday open house at The Treehouse - and this year I am extra excited because my adorable twin sissy (get it.. she's adorable.. and we are twins.. so I am too? Ha ha) is going to be in town for the event!!!

Oh how I love getting the house ready for hosting a party... our brand new elevator will be done just a few weeks before hand, making the "temporary 6th flr walk-up" situation a thing of the past, blessedly)... I love the glow of our tree all sparkling and lit up with simple white lights, the smell of food and mulled wine coming from the kitchen and dining nook, the sound of chuckles from the cigar smokers around the (gel fueled) fire pit on the patio... glasses clinking, people eating, every last thing in its place around the house.... :::sigh:::

I can't wait!!

I will start posting menu ideas in my cooking blog soon.. the party is the first weekend in Dec this year, which actually gives me less time than I am used to for planning... Just to get me in the mood, it is supposed to snow in the city tonight...

Hooray for Girl Time!!

I get to have a little Happy Hour with the girls after work today, and I am looking forward to it so much!! I love a good drink with the girls because it usually involves a more upscale environment (no sports bars or dives, like when the Hs come along) and we can sit and sip (or gulp) down some vino, share a big plate of anti-pasto selections and be our fabulous selves with our fabulous friends...

It will be all I can do to not head over early and hang out, just to get the R & R started!

Break out the prosecco and bring on the cheese plate - it's almost cocktail hour!!

I had to work an event last weekend, so I get the ever-wonderful comp day tomorrow.. 3 day weekend, here I come -WOOT WOOT!!

As Tom Petty said - "the waiting is the hardest part" - because today is just crawling by, and all I want is to get outta here and get started with my fabulous weekend... I have pics to scrap blog of our trip to New Orleans the week before last, stuff to putter on around the house, and a freshly washed doggie who smells like apple shampoo and is just begging to be snuggled and have a nap with me... :)

OH THREE DAY WEEKEND, HOW I LOVE THEE!!
