Very good point.  I used to use a towel for a week in college.  Yuck.  I don't even want to think about all the things it touched (hook to hang it, falling to the floor, etc).  Now it goes every 2-3 days and then it heads to the laundry room.

I wasnt judging.  the answer I should have posted was "when I think about it" usually every 7-10 days.

Kinda a SS: We wash them with our clothes now (it's not worth it to do a separate load while in the apartment) and we wash our clothing 2x a week.  For M it's about 2 uses per towel, for me it's about 4-5.

At my mom's towels lasted a full week (we had separate bathrooms so it was easier to dry)

When I lived at M's parents' we ALL (8 people) only used towels once before putting them into the hamper.  I think it was due to a lack of place to store them to dry and keeping them all straight.  But towels got done 1x or 2x a week as a load.

I don't use many towels. I mostly use a bathrobe after the shower and a special hair towel. Otherwise I just use hand towels.

We don't have a seperate towel load.  They go with our clothes.  Even the hand towels (we don't use paper towels) and cleaning rags usually get tossed into a load of someones.

I only wash towels with whites.  I worry about fluff on my jeans or black sweaters.

Oh I know you're not judging. I just didn't realize what the norm was. I assumed that my 15 loads of laundry a week was a norm.

I also wash the tub mats after every use. I just grab the towel and the tub mat and take it straight down to the laundry room (wet towels in the hamper are a big no-go). Now I'm starting to see how stupid that is. That's 7 freaking tub mats and 21 towels a week!!! Crazy cakesSurprise

I think I need to seek professional help.LOL

If the reason you do this is because the towels aren't drying, you'd probably do better fixing the dampness problem you've got than doing all this laundry in the long run.

Once a week. I do laundry on the weekends and wash a load of towels, a load of sheets, warm-wash clothes (underwear, undershirts, socks), and cold-wash clothes. So, 4 loads per week. We have a small HE front-loader washer; if it could hold more, I'd decrease to 2-3 loads per week.

I see nothing wrong with using a towel for a week; I use it to dry my clean body, then it goes right back on the rack. Never onto the floor. And I keep track of which end of the towel is for which end of me (tagged end is for my head/upper body.) Stick out tongue

mrs. washes a lot, you need to find a place to hang your towels so that they can dry for either the next use or until there are more towels to wash together.

how much is your hydro bill? and how much TIde do you go thru?

you could also just throw the wet towels in the dryer and not wash them every time.  they are not dirty-- this way they can be fluffy and dry. (not good for the hydro bill... but happy medium for your OCD)

Do you spit on your towel hooks?

Unless I grossly miss the point, I think the thing about you being clean when you use towels is a point in favor of needing to wash them less often, not more.  A clean towel absorbing water from your clean body and then air drying just isn't going to get that dirty that quickly.  What possible germs do you believe lurk on your towel hooks that will seep through your skin and harm you?

LMAO. I'm so changing my user name to Mrs. washes a lotYes

We pay about $450 for utilities every two months and I go through one Costco box of Tide every month, plus couple of boxes of Borax/baking soda, 1 bottle of Downy and 1 gallon of vinegar.

I told my husband how everybody on the nest thinks I'm crazy now and he says: "Now tell them how long it takes you to clean the master bed/bath".Embarrassed

I'm SO not telling.LOL

Yes, this is the point I was trying to make. I can't imagine how a towel gets dirty enough to need washing after wiping your clean body off once! If it really does get that dirty, some improvement in bathing skills is called for.

I'm going to bet I went way longer than a week in college.  And I'm going to bet most boys I know washed their towels hardly ever.

How long does it take you to do all this unnecessary cleaning every week. I'm trying to figure out how you have time to DO anything else. This is not healthy.

I don't know. I don't exactly keep track....But I get up at 4-4:30 and clean or start prep work for dinner. I do this for about 2-3 hours. Then after I'm done with work, I walk in the door and start cooking, laundry, paperwork, sorting mail, yardwork etc.

After I clean the kitchen (which takes 1-2 hours every day, depending what I made for dinner), I tackle a room/day. So master bed/bath is on Monday and it takes almost 2 hours. The small bathroom takes 30 min.

The living room takes 2 hours. I have to vacuum the floors, hand wash the floors, vacuum the blinds, corners of the ceiling and curtains. Then I bust out the carpet cleaner and shampoo the rug (my dog takes his treats and bones on it) and the runners.

I do all this crap and then I go to bed and think about how my house isn't clean anyways. We were interviewing some real estate agents and when they walked into the house, they were very confused. They actually thought that we already moved out and the house is just staged. I put EVERYTHING I use away. I can't stand to think that it's collecting dust...

Yes, is this not normal or something?

I have no real point of reference. My mom is like this also, only *slighty* better.

Well it's not.

I didn't think it was that bad. It's not really interfering with my life. I would say it only becomes a problem if:

a) Drives my husband crazy

b) It prevents me from doing my hobbies and fun stuff, which it doesn't. I run between 40-60 miles per week and volunteer at the Humane Society. Plus I don't really do anything on the weekends, except for cooking and the kitchen cleanup and couple of loads of laundry.

Not normal. At all.  I get that some people like to keep busy, but this is going well beyond that.  Plus, it is interfering with your life even if you aren't consciously recognizing it.  You said so yourself in a previous post when you said you go to bed thinking your house isn't clean.  The type of cleaning you do everyday gets done in my house maybe 1-2 times a year as part of a deep spring and fall cleaning.  I probably spend about 30-60 minutes a day on average doing clutter pickup and cleaning.
