Help for a NY Nestie?

Hi ladies! My DH and I are planning to move to the Cleveland area to join the rest of our family who have been settling out that way. I know nothing about the area and my family who lives there does not have school age children, so they really can't give advice on good school districts, family friendly towns, etc. Our family is in Shaker Heights and Chagrin Falls so those are really the only 2 places I've been, other than the actual city of Cleveland.

If you wouldn't mind I would really appreciate some help with my questions, since there isn't a better resource than people who actually live in the area!

-What towns would you recommend for newlyweds looking to start a family?
-What towns have the highest taxes?
-What towns have the best schools?
-My DH is a teacher, so I have to also ask... what are the best districts to teach in?

Any help and/or advice would be fantastic. I have never lived anywhere except for NY and NJ so it is a bit intimidating to decide to pick up and move to an entirely different area, which I know nothing about. Thank you so much!

Bay Village has pretty high taxes. But it also has really good schools. Westlake schools are great too!

Here are the places where we are looking:

Rocky River

Bay Village

Independence

 Brecksville

Broadview Hts.

P.S. : I am orig from NY too!

No info, just wanted to say hi and that I moved here from NYC as well.

There's another private board that NEO Nesties post on that might be more helpful.  If nothing else, they're very nice.

Wow, I guess I won't be the only NY'er in OH when we move! haha

Thanks for the info. We're hoping to start actively house hunting in early 2009 so we can move that summer. I just like to plan ahead so I can spend my free time snooping around on the local real estate sites :)

Our real estate agent is awesome and her home search website is awesome (allows you to delete certain homes from the list, lets you make some favorites, lets you make notes next to each) just give her a call and she is great and will be as involved as you want her to be and leave you alone when you want.

we just moved back from atlanta to cle and we are looking at beachwood, pepperpike, solon and orange- they are on the east side and have really good public schools.

taxes are very high in all but solon, but the area/location is great. HTH

We are currently living in NYC but my fiance and I are both from NE Ohio. He grew up in Bay Village and has only positive things to say about it. I'm more from the Akron/Canton area so I don't know too much about the other areas.
