What to get Dad for his bday?

I have this problem every year! My Dad is so tough to get gifts for. He is turning 76. He goes to the gym every day for a couple of hours, exercycle and weights.  They mall-walk sometimes, it's cute. They go out for lunch, shopping, movies, shows. No golf, no BBQing, not super into electronics.

The only things I can think of are:

They are coming out here for a month,in late August (baby due)  so maybe a San Francisco survival kit? sun hat, guide book(s), ear plugs (for when the baby cries), I don't know what else.

or they recently, not even a year ago, got their first computer. I can't really think of anything related to that.

I was thinking of a kindle, but he would not put his cc # in any automated device so I would set up the account and he could send me a check every few months. I don't know if he would like that though. He's very "independent".

My Dad is instant gratification guy so he's literally impossible to shop for. I usually get him dinner and a movie gift cards (he lives in Texas so it's easy to mail).

I have recently found out that they put their GC in bag and then ultimately never use them. Awesome.

A non-fiction book - preferably a memoir or history related? Our Dads (who are both very independent as well) eat that sh!t up.

My dad is hard to shop for too! Books are good, gift card to movies. I like you kit idea- are they far away? Can you give em a webcam for their computer so you can skype with the babe? My father in law is the same age and he loved the chair massager we got him for fathers day! Its from costco:)

Since he spends a lot of time exercising, how about something gym related like a gym bag stuffed with gym clothes and tennis shoes? If that's too much, maybe one or two of those items.

You would think! But it's really hard to buy him gym clothes. I have tried that in the past. Maybe I will try again. I think he goes in his regular clothes!  Old men are weird like that.

Oh, he just told me he wants a camcorder. He is going to let me know which one. Being Grandpa is the motivation! I think those super cute little flip HD ones are cool.

Another option is something like the beer of the month or the wine of the month club. I got Brian the beer of the month club last year for his birthday and it is AMAZING. I LOVE IT! Oh.. yeah it was Brian's gift... ;) But we have decided to primarily get people experience gifts not tangible gifts...
