Tremont vs Rocky River

To buy a house?  About us:

Moving into town from so cal, but I was raised in N. Royalton
Must have eateries or lake, etc to walk to
No babies in plans for 3-4 years
Move would be considered when future kids are in school.
Potential house in Tremont= brand new single family (on a completely new construction street), teensy yard (2700 sq ft on .1 acre lot), 1 block from Lolitas/Lago/806
Potential house in River= 50's built but no inspection issues, 2000 sq ft, large .3 acre lot.  1 block from the lake, starbucks, new shopping complex.

Please give advice, since we can't visit the neighborhoods at all times.

I would pick Rocky River. Tremont is great blah blah blah, but there are many problems with crime and there is the new development for section 8 that they put in and it will be expanding. If you want to go for a run I know I would  100% feel safer doing so in Rocky River than doing so in tremont. I live nearby (to tremont) and I am moving early to mid september away from that area. Those brand new single family homes are sweet but the re-sell only applies to a limited #/type of people. I think you will also get more bang for your buck in rocky river.

Oh and if you need a realtor to help find you a place  I will give you the name of the woman we used to find our place (she was great and worked past midnight many nights to help us with some issues we encountered- and even accepted late night/early morning calls from my pita husband)

i would pick River 100% for resale.      Tremont has a crap school district and therefore the housing prices have a celing and in this market I think it will be a bad investment.

river is always one of the most popular suburbs.     This to me is not even a choice.

If you want to live in Tremont- rent, especially for 3 years.  In 3 yrs you will make no money on a house in Tremont (IMO) and might lose some.   Plus rent is way cheaper.

I would also pick Rocky River. A friend of ours moved to Tremont recently and within the first 6 months she had her car broken into and was mugged. Not that that can't happen anywhere, but for safety's sake River is a better bet. You can always take the rapid into Tremont for "trendy nights out" and then sleep safely at home...

We just moved to R River last month and couldn't be happier!  We also looked at homes in Tremont and determined it was a great place to go for dinner/drinks and walk around, but not live.  Tremont is not yet safe enough in my standards.  In River we are walking distance to our gym and less than a mile from restaurants/bars/shopping.

BUT with all that said, it is a good idea to fly in and check out both.  Email me at PJWEDDING07@gmail.com with any other questions.

Ditto - Rocky River.  I love going out in Tremont, but IMO it doesn't really have a neighborhood feel to it.  And while it would be a fun place to live as a single, or as a childless couple, I wouldn't want to have kids there.

Rocky River has some pretty decent places to eat/drink also.  And it's right by the Metroparks, which is great for walking, running, bike riding, etc.
