Virginia Anniversary Idea

Anyone have good ideas for a first anniversary getaway?  DH and I will be available for traveling from Dec. 26 through Jan. 4.  (Jan. 3 is our official anniversary.)  We don't have a ton of money, but can afford a 2-4 nights at a hotel.  Anyone have any suggestions?  We don't want to drive more than 4-5 hours away, tops.  We are coming from the Peninsula.

A weekend in Colonial Williamsburg? You can actually book a room in one of the homes on Duke of Gloucestor St. which is a really neat experience and the breakfasts are yumm-o. Or a cabin in the mountains; could be charming with a fire in the fireplace, some even offer jaccuzzis so you could soak at night which is a relaxing and romantic way to spend an hour or so in the evenings.

What I'm most thankful for.

Well it's more like 5.5 hours, but we rented a condo in Myrtle Beach for $56/night plus cleaning fee for our anniversary.  The condo was less than a year old and one bldg back from the beach.  We had ocean views though!

Check www.homeaway.com or www.vrbo.com for rentals.  They have listings worldwide.

There's a beautiful B&B in the mountains in Natural Bridge (Lexington, VA) called Brierley Hill.  The website is http://www.brierleyhill.com/index.htm They have discounted rates at that time of year and I'm sure it is stunning in the winter.. and cozy :)

Chincoteague and Assateague is about 3 hours away from Newport News and in the winter going into the park was free, the restaurants were less crowded and you can still see the horses, the light house, and visit the museum.  We went in March.  The bed and breakfast places looked really nice, but we stayed in at Comfort Suites that had the room right on the water.
