I ran my worst 5K ever today

The course was three 1 mile laps around an area of a local park. The course was actually for a set of cyclocross races.  There were 12 runners for the 5K.  A 12 year old and a 60 year old beat me, by far.

Some of the hills were like this   /, and it was never flat for more than 10 seconds. My official time was 38:09 and I was reallly hoping for it to be more like 30:00 ish since I've been running more and harder since my last 5K in July.  It was 72 degrees for the race and I've been running in 50 degree weather for the last two weeks.  I ended up running the downhill and flat parts and walking uphill since my legs were burning so much after the first mile.  DH showed up with our dogs and I actually asked him if I could quit halfway through the second lap.  He told me no, like a good husband and I trudged on.

On the bright side, I finished. I did it.  I even watched a few laps of the novice cyclocross race before I left.  That's some badass stuff. Props to SaddleBred!

Some races are brutal for whatever reason. I've been there, too. Good for you in sticking it out!

Congrats for finishing!  It's really tough to keep going when you're not running well.  We all have bad running days, and sometimes they end up on race days, unfortunately :(

Builds character that you saw it through!

I did a trail 10K once that was killer.  It was SO much fun but killer b/c the mud was insane .. .almost up to my knees and it took a lot of strength to get through several miles of this.  Then up hill like you said.  I finished and looked back thinking . . .darn, that was a good race, much tougher than I expected but I feel good.

My time sucked too but I finished.

You finished and you should feel proud!  Sounds like a very tough course.

Aw, you all are too kind.  I am proud that I finished, but I'm frustrated with my attitude during the race.  I knew it was going to be more difficult than running on roads, I was further in over my head than I thought I was going to be.

We all have bad days, way to tough it out.

From Sadlebred's race reports cyclocross sounds crazy. If it was hard to run, it's got to be killer on a bike.
