Almond butter?

Yay or nay? Does it taste more like whole almonds or marzipan? I've been wanting to try it for a while, but I'm hesitant to shell out $6 for a jar when I've never tasted it.

The only alternative butter I've tried was soy nut butter, and I thought that was gross.

It tasted like almond flavored peanut butter to me.  Do you have a TJ's?  It's pretty inexpensive there.  They also let you take things back if you don't like it.

It was good.  I still pike regular PB better though.

Do you have a Fresh Market near you? You can grind your own nut butters, so you can choose how much you want to buy.

I spent about $11 on a jar and we both hated it!  The texture was kind of gross and not like peanut butter.  I stirred it up to make it not so separated, but that is how it was.

Ew.

to me it tastes like ground up almonds.  i think it's really yummy, and eat it like peanut butter (so on toast, etc.).  i buy it from TJs.

I love almond butter!  My new favorite is the creamy almond butter with sea salt from Trader Joes.  Its about $3 a jar? This one is really creamy, same consistency of peanut butter.

You can choose the consistency like regular peanut butter. I have had some that are more gritty then others, but it depends on what you like.  I like eihter, but the creamier ones are a little easier to eat.

They really taste just like almonds ground up.  You should look for one that has only a couple ingredients like almonds and oil, or just almonds.

And yes, with natural nut butters you are going to have oil on top that you will have to stir.  And most have to be kept refrigerated.  I like them so much better then the Jif or Skippy stuff.

ETA: both Whole Foods in my area carry single serving packets of nut butters.  I believe Justin's is the brand.   It would be an inexpensive way to try them out without committing to a whole jar.

I don't mind it, but DH doesn't like it at all. So, I usually just stick to regular PB.

DH and I both love almond butter! We get the creamy kind from Trader Joe's, which isn't so expensive. I actually like that the texture is a little gritty, like it's in between creamy and crunchy.

I love it!  If you have a Trader Joe's you can get it there for cheaper.  Also, you can make your own.  Just make sure you get roasted almonds.  I tried it with raw almonds and it didn't work out so well.  I have it in my blog (link in siggy).

I am sorta embarrassed to say that I have spent $10 for a jar of Almond Butter (Barney Butter brand) but it is SOOOO good!  I use one tablespoon each morning in my oatmeal and it has lasted a while- which is good considering the price!  But I do enjoy the TJ's brand as well since it only has almonds and salt and no oil (Barney Butter had oil to keep it mixed and creamy)

I like the Barney Butter brand!  Some of the other brands I've tried, I didn't like so much.

This.  We don't have TJ's; I get the MaraNatha brand - sooo good!

Ok, I'll try the TJs creamy almond butter - that sounds promising!

I've also been tempted by their cashew and macadamia nut butters, which sound awesome, but probably not very healthy!

Do you have a Whole Foods?

Mine sells the brand Justin's and they have little single serving squeeze packets for like $1:

or even a 100 calorie pack.

I love it.  Justin's and Barney Butter are my favorite brands.

ETA:  just realized pp said the same thing I did.  :)  But Barney Butter and Justin's Nut Butter both sell single serving packs.

I got the raw almond butter kind from TJ's and it was meh.  The only ingredient is almonds.  With a little bit of sugar though...it's pretty delicious.

Don't get the organic brand from Giant- not as good as the stuff at Whole Foods.
