Little Rock AFB

 Hello, ladies!

A few days ago my husband got his orders and we are going to Little Rock AFB. We live in Washington State but my husband is currently deployed right now.  We are moving around March and we are super excited about it. I have a few questions.. We would like to live somewhere close to the base. What are the good places to live? We are thinking about renting a house first and then buy a house after. We don't have kids yet but planning to have in the next 2 years. How's the weather like? I'm from the Philippines so warm weather is not really an issue but I'm not sure about the winter like in AR. And lastly, what are the good places to eat and do some fun activities?

We are really excited about our new adventure as a new married couple! Thanks ladies and have a great one!!!

Congrats on getting married and seeking new adventure in Arkansas!

There are several options to live around the AFB. I really like Cabot (I work there!) and there are other options: Jacksonville, Sherwood, North Little Rock, and even LR. These are all very close to the base. There is a TON of things to do, especially in Little Rock. The River Market and downtown area, Pinacle Mountain, etc. You will have fun! There's a ton of places to eat.... everything you can imagine and great local places.

In the summer, the weather is HOT! It does get above 100. In the winter, it does get pretty cold. We do get snow around here. But I love it.

Hope this helps! Goodluck to ya'll :)

Heya, we've been at little rock for about 6 months now and I really like it. As far as living goes, cabot is really nice and compared to where we've been before very close to the base and about 20 mins from north little rock. However, my married with no kids friends prefer to live closer to little rock, in places like sherwood or north little rock. Jacksonville is the city the base is in, and its a hole. I don't reccomend living there. The weather here can be brutal. We got here in April, and our first night here a tornado came through! The spring is volatile with storms, and tornados are common. I had no idea arkansas was in tornado alley until we moved here. As far as temps, spring is the nicest time. Summer is so humid and thick its hard to spend any time outside. This summer there were highs of 108 with an index of 110-120 with humidity. The fall has been temperate though, much less humidity if any, temps in the 70s-low 80s. Just this week it got chilly, highs in the 60s, lows in the 40s. Lots of stuff to do here though! We really like it.

Hi there. Thanks for the kind reply.

I think I made my mind now that we are going to live in Cabot since almost everybody on here recommended it and a friend of my DH says that Cabot is a good place to live. We don't have kids yet but planning to have one in the next year or so. I kinda thought that Arkansas is in tornado alley and I have never seen a tornado before. Warm weather is not an issue. I'm from the Philippines and it's summer there all year round. We are moving probably around March.

We can't wait to move there!

Cabot tends to lean towards the racist side.  I think it's improving in that aspect, but just a warning since you said you were Filipino. I would stay away from North Little Rock as well, for different reasons.  Sherwood, or certain parts of Little Rock would be my picks.
I don't have kids, so I don't know which school districts or schools are the best.  Definitely something to think about though if you are planning on buying a house.  Once you get on the Rock, you can never leave, lol.  That's what I've always heard about LRAFB, and have experienced myself.  So, long-term planning would be important.
Weather is cold in the winter, but not too cold.  We usually get a day or two of snow each year.  Be warned, EVERYTHING shuts down when there is snow.  We had more snow than usual last year.  The whole area was shut down for like a week.  Spring is damp and rainy.  As others have said, we are prone to tornadoes.  Summers are hot. Fall is nice.  We are the Natural state, so fall is really pretty.
There are several good places to eat and things to do in the LR Metro area.  What kinds of food do you like and what activities do you like to do?
