Mother's Day poem for infertiles. (don't read if you don't want to cry)

My BFF in IRL is also TTTC last Mother's day was really hard on her b/c she had just reached her 1 year 'anniversary' of TTC and I was just a couple months into trying so i didn't really understand how much mother's day sucks for those of us that have TTTGP. She sent me this awhile back and I thought I'd share with you ladies. Warning, you my end up crying.

“Happy Mother's Day”
it comes around every year;
but when you have empty arms,
it's very hard to hear.

It's a day to celebrate a mother;
for all the trials she overcame;
and a reminder to an infertile
of her loneliness and shame.

But what really makes a mother,
Is it just conception and birth?
Or is there something more,
that shows a mother's worth?

It's putting your child first,
in everything you do;
it's sacrifice and determination,
and love and patience too.

An infertile woman makes all her plans,
around a child not yet conceived;
she loves them even though they aren't here,
more than she ever could have believed.

She appreciates and understands,
what a blessing that children are;
she works hard for just a chance,
that motherhood is not that far.

All odds are stacked against her,
and yet she still has hope;
everyday is another struggle,
finding ways to help her cope.

So even though her arms are empty,
she can still be a mother too;
So say a special “Happy Mother's Day”
for those waiting for their dreams to come true!

Holy crap, you weren't kidding about the crying part!  I never expected to find myself loving a child who hasn't been conceived, but I totally get that line now.

TTC 17 months. Dx: MFI (morph=1,) LPD due to poor quality ovulation because of mildly blocked fallopian tubes. B2B IUIs with injects were pending, but we had a surprise BFP after HSG!

Not to hijack this post but they are seriously my favorite thing ever.  I will do almost anything for a klondike bar...including an extra 20 minutes on the treadmill!  It was delicous!

[;'(] Oh my gosh, I read it and teared up but then read it to DH and completely broke down. Thanks for sharing this, it is so true. After all this time I am hurting a lot but still have that hope that someday my BFP will come. (((HUGS))) to all you 3Ters.

That us a beautiful poem. I got teary. I'm not really looking very forward to mother's day this year. Between our TTTC and the loss of my grandmother, it's not going to be very fun. I went to buy MD cards today and got very sad that I had to buy one less. 

 

And, FRT, the mint chocolate chip Klindike bars are heaven.

Thanks for sharing! This is beautiful. I am really nervous about church on Sunday. Churches make such a big deal about Mother's Day as they should but I know it will be very hard this year. At our old church, the pastor's wife had dealt with infertility, so he actually would have all the women who dreamed of being a mom stand up and pray a blessing over their bodies on that day and talk about the dream of motherhood by an infertile, very similar to this poem. It was great that he included all mothers and all people who dreamed of being moms.

 We go to a new church now where everyone has about 5-19 kids each so infertility is not something anyone gets there! They all know I miscarried after IVF though so maybe I'll get a knowing hug. Not looking forward to that day at all.

After 5 years fighting the infertility battle, we are letting go and answering a long desired call to adoption. I am so excited!
