Money issues

My husband and I just got married on Saturday and we are still living at home. I am still in school and he is about to back in January. we want to move out and we don't pay any bills right now but we want to save more money first but I am currently a few hundred dollars in debt. My question is how should I go about paying off my debt while still trying to save for us to move out?

Unless you're debt is at 0% interest, pay it off first. Then save to move out.

Debt first, although it's hard to say for sure without seeing your budget. Your debt doesn't seem that big and since you aren't paying any bills, I'd assume you could pay it off in a couple months and then start saving to move out. By "move out" do you mean you want to buy a house or rent?

Limit spending to necessities only --- and get real about what is a want and what is necessary.

Get a additional job PT (seasonal work is available now)

Look at the amount of money avialable and put 1/2 to savings and 1/2 to debt until debt is gone. Then all to savings. More information would help us give better advice to your situation.

(Why did you get married before you could afford to be on your own?)

Can you share any more information?  A couple of hundred dollars isn't a lot of debt.  However, you will rack up debt very quickly if you move out and aren't able to work while going to school.  I'm not sure if you've lived on your own so I'll point out some basic monthly bills: rent, heat, electricity, cable, internet, furniture, down payment on an apartment.  The first time H and I got our own place we probably spent 5K between the down payment on the apt, the fees for the background check, and then we needed a sofa, a tv, bedroom furniture, kitchen table etc.  Will you have any income when you move out?  You'll also not want to deplete your savings for this move in case of emergencies.  I'd try to stay at home as long as your parents will let you.

Are either of you working? Since you don't have any bills, use that to pay off your debt and then throw the rest into savings. Figure out a savings goal: how much you want saved by X date, figure out how much that would be per month, and then stick to the goal.

Out of curiosity, how much longer do both of you have in school? My husband is also a student (has been for the past 4 yrs, one to go) and it's been difficult for us to live off just one income AND pay for his school. Not just financially, but emotionally, too. It's hard on him to not contribute financially and it's difficult for me to work all the time, yet not be able to go shopping when I want because it all goes to bills. Given the opportunity to live rent free at home, I probably would have taken it.

As pp have said, there are a lot of hidden costs of moving out aside from just rent. Don't forget the deposit, utilities, furniture, kitchen essentials, household supplies, etc.
