Worker's Comp

I am a teacher and my finger got stuck on part of the copier today, well my engagement ring got stuck. It all happened quickly and as I pulled my hand my ring got stuck and literally broke off my finger. My finger is swollen and such, but intact thankfully! My ring is insured with my insurance company, but there is a $200 or $250 deductible. Does worker's comp cover that? I know it will cover if I need to go to the doctor for my finger, but personal property?

Not sure, you would have to check with your state guideline or a lawyer. Sorry that happened to your ring, that sucks.

I'm still trying to figure out how that even happened??  It is just a copy machine after all?  I don't really get what you were doing that your ring would be that close to moving parts?

I have no clue but I highly doubt it. Worker's comp is for personal injury and insurance is for personal property. If it were me I would still inquire because you never know, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. Plan on paying your deductible and be thankful you had it insured.

Oh, and bummer about your finger. Sounds scarry. Glad you turned out ok. It could have been worse.

As a former workers  comp  adjustor, I would only  pay this  after  I had a  hold  harmless agreement. It releases  the employer and insuarnce company from  future claims for this injury. I would want it after you  were done  with TX (if any) and return  to  work and have no  permeant damage. Basically, it's to make you  go away and not come back.  it would  say basiclly   that   from the date of  injury till you are no longer  seeking medical  treatment, medical expenses  and wages  are  covered  and that  you  accept the settlement of your  deductible as  full and final settlement. Once I got  that  and a copy of  your  policy  stating what  your dedutible  is, I would issue  a  check to  you.

I didn't get it stuck in the moving parts, thank God. Our copier has three paper drawers at the bottom. I had used colored paper and opened the drawer to take out the extra pages when I was done. As I pushed the drawer shut and was in the process standing up my ring got stuck on the drawer above the one I was closing. It was all done in less than a second, but as I shut the drawer and stood up my ring got caught and I continued standing up not knowing yet. The ring pulled down to my knuckle but couldn't slide over it easily enough. I thought I dislocated my finger, but luckily it was just painful and instantly swollen.

Most likely it will not be covered under worker's comp if you did not immediately file a report.

Workers' compensation is a creature of State law & it varies wildly from state to state.  However, I doubt any comp policy pays for property damage (your ring).

Have somebody make a 1st report of accident & go from there. 

In many states there are "informal" proceedings that can be used when you hurt a finger as opposed to having a more life changing injury.
