Surprising DH with $$$

Long story short, I'm cashing in some stocks that I thought were worth $17,000, but they're actually worth $170,000. Obviously this is HUGE news for us, and financially life changing in the best of ways. I should be seeing the money right around Christmas, and I'm trying to think of ways to surprise DH with this news. One thought I had was throwing a bow around $1,000 in singles or something, but didn't know if there were more creative ideas out there.

I would use Monopoly money - with a note that they represent the "real thing"

Be sure to set aside the taxes you will need to pay on your capital gains.

WOW! What amazing and wonderful news! Ideas:

1. Get someone to dress up as the publisher's clearing house and come to your door with balloons (this would be a lot of effort but funny)

2. I like the monopoly money idea

3. Casually mention some financial goal yall have (paying off a car, loan, debt, reaching a % of e-fund) and just say "Oh yeah, I'll take care of that on Tuesday"

How exciting and what a wonderful opportunity to put you on a good financial path.  Take your time to decide how this money will best help you now and in the future.

How about a $70k Corvette with $100k in a briefcase in the passenger seat.

Also, do you know how he would feel about you cashing in all the stock at once? I don't know your situation but that seems like a lot of money to pull out all at once.

He's fine with it, as it's mine, not his, and, although he doesn't know it yet, we'll be paying off 3 vehicles, a loan to my mom for our build, new furniture for the house, and credit balances with $30,000+ to spare.

I have a few things I would like if you struggle spending that remaining $30,000+.

I would surprise him by wrapping up the titles of the cars, and any bills you are paying off showing they are paid off. That would be a great way to surprise him. Each time he opens a statement and sees paid in full, that will be a great surprise. I would make sure to put some money into an emergency reserve. And after that's all said and done, what about a romantic getaway weekend for you two?

Put that remaining 30K into an emergency fund (6-8 month's expenses) .  Then - pay off all credit cards monthly in the future.

If you're paying off cars/house related things, you could buy small hot wheels toy cars and small doll furniture and wrap them up.

wow!! and what an awesome gift!!

an idea i've seen as a wedding gift, i guess it depends on if you're an ornery couple or not...

but you tape together 100 dollar bills end to end to make a string of them (however many you want/ at the wedding they did 10). then get a roll of toilet paper and unravel it a bit, roll it back up with the string of 100 dollar bills inside.

if you could keep a straight face (i couldn't) it would be funny to just watch and wait for him to go and use the tp and find the money...
