what fridge do you have?

hi all, we are in the final (hopefully) stretch of a long process for a short sale. With that said, the current owner is going to take all their appliances. We will need a new stove, and fridge (eventually we will need a dishwasher too but for the time being the one there is staying)

I have always wanted a french door fridge and a double oven and we decided we can't splruge on both. since i have lived my entire life and our entire married life with a standard size fridge with a double door, freezer on top...i realized I'd rather splurge on the thing i will use the most- the double oven range. With that said, we are now looking into prioing fridges.

I do prefer the freezer on the bottom, that just seems to make sense to me... but we are open to side by sides as well. I don't LOVE side by sides because anyway you slice it you are almost always going to have to bend all the way down or reach up (I'm only 5'0) to get something in the fridge, VS. everything being eye level on a freezer on the bottom.

Do you guys have any recommendations for Fridges? I tend to only want to stick to the "kitchen" brands (ie kenmore, fridgeaire, maytag, wirlpool) vs. electonic brands (ie samsung and lg)...my grandfather was a fridge repair man when he retired from the fire department for over 25 years and never had luck with electronic brands, plus our friend who took over his business told us that their parts have be shipped in from korea vs. some warehouse in the US so it takes him twice as long to fix. but other than that we are open minded...

We've had the Maytag Ice2 since 06 and have been very pleased.  French door, freezer on the bottom, ice and water in door.

Hi! We have the GE Cafe french door with freezer on the bottom. It has an internal water dispenser and an ice maker. I'm happy we chose this refrigerator although I was a bit turned off at first because I wasn't used to the french door but after a while i've decided it's awesome. The only issue is that sometimes the water dispenser will freeze up and we'll have to hit it with a blow dryer to get the water flowing again. I personally think that we have the temperature in the fridge set too low but my Hubs seems to think otherwise lol. As long as he's blowdrying it I don't care!

We got a JennAir on a huge sale....i never thought i could love a refrigerator so much. haha

I'm pretty sure thats what it is. Looks similar at least. Counter depth, french door with freezer on bottom. shelves are all adjustable. water dispenser INSIDE the fridge (so you don't take up room in the fridge door by the huge icemaker/water dispenser) freezer has an upper coated wire shelf that slides so you can access the full depth of the freezer. Has 2 closed drawers for vegetables and fruit, and one longer closed drawer (we keep cheeses and meats here). I have definitely noticed that veggies and fruit stay good for weeks longer than they used to!

the only "non-green" part is filling something with the dispenser - you need to keep the fridge door open which isn't all that energy efficient. but a small glass fills within 5-10 seconds, so it works out fine =)

bottom line, is that it's truly a lot of storage for a small counter-depth space. I believe maytag or whirlpool has a similar looking fridge (most of those companies are actually all bought out by each other anyway!)

We have a Viking (expensive and not really all worth it but it came with our house) My husband works for a family appliance business and he suggests Wrpl, Kitchen Aid, Jenn Air and Samsung.

I have asked in the past for friends what he would suggest for a person looking for a basic fridge, nothing fancy but nice and functions well and he has said Whirlpool or Samsung. They both have decent fridges that look nice and aren't super expensive.

What size space and what budget are you looking at? I love my Frigidaire french door with ice maker, water on door, digital temperature control that is 28 cubic feet but it is huge (needs a 42" wide space just to open the doors all the way). We got ours for $1200, retailing at $2500 because it had a dent in the side that we'll never see.  Worth every penny, just don't forget to consider the space you need to put it in.

Our fridge is pretty small (we live in a 700 sq. ft. house), so the specific model probably won't be helpful, but we have a Kenmore, and it has been doing pretty well, no problems.
