Do you belong to AAA? If so, you can get free travel books and maps from them. If not, their website also has a "planner" that you can plug in a city/starting point and you go from there. My H likes to look on there and try and map out a trip.

Hurray road trips, SO much fun! I always check roadsideamerica (.com?) to see if there are fun/ weird stops along the way. It's not the greatest web site functionally, but a good place to find fun things.
