Have you gifted DR TMM?

'Tis the season?

My sister will be 26 in May 2013, and my parents are cutting her off financially.  I thought 5+ months was good enough to read through the book and maybe start a reality check.

If you've gifted the book, how was it received?

I don't know what the abbreviation stands for but it sounds like it's some sort of budgeting book? Self-help books are sh!tty, passive-aggressive gifts even if you mean well.

Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover.  There's nothing passive-aggressive about how blunt we've all been with her (my parents and I).  She's my sister, and she's already filed bankruptcy for a Nordy's card she couldn't afford to pay off.

She knows.  This is just a road map.  I don't care if she uses it to prop up her coffee table or to hold a door open in her apartment.  Bottom line is she'll have it when she decides she needs it.

Sounds like she is on a road to disaster.  I wouldn't care how she "receives" it, she needs it and who knows...you might be giving her the gift of financial freedom.

I say go for it!

Does it need to be a Christmas gift? Couldn't you just give it to her without it being for Christmas. From what you've described she definitely needs the book but I don't know if Christmas, especially if you open gifts with other family members present, is the place for her to receive the book. Maybe just visit her one day and say something like, 'I was Christmas shopping today and came across this book. I think it could really help you out.'

My favorite picture because I knew I was in love that night. photo h_zps4345372b.jpg

This. It doesn't sound like something she wants. Gifts should be things people will enjoy receiving, regardless of what you think of their decisions/lifestyle.

I have friends who gift every newlywed couple with the full class when they get married, sounds like a great gift.
