Horomone changes in 20s? Killing bedroom life!

Hi all! I've spent the past few months Googling the life out of this, and can't seem to find any answers. Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? FYI I have an appt with my obgyn but it's not until Feb...

Anyway. I've been on the BC pill (same one, very low dosage) for 8 years. In the past year or so, I (as well as my new H) have noticed some odd changes.

Maybe it's hormonal changes?? Does that happen in your 20s when you've been on regulated hormones for 8 years? I'm 24. In the past year, it's been getting steadily worse. Changes include: often/sever migraines that last for days, extreme mood swings, insane irritation, random crying, general feeling of "blah", very low sex drive, constant facial acne (never had this before ever!), gained 10lbs, period lasts 2 days longer, sleep 8-12  hours/night and still feel exhausted......

Obviously I dislike feeling psycho, but I especially hate that our bedroom life isn't much fun anymore because I'm always irritated/tired/headache/not interested. Poor DH has pretty much been left to take things in his "own hands" lately! We still have sex 3x a week or so, but it feels like a chore for me.

So: am I a nutcase, or could hormone changes (due to nature or to BC pills) be to blame?

Apparently you and your BC are no longer compatible.

Have you considered non-hormonal barrier methods: diaphragm and/or condom, NFP, an IUD, vaginal film, vaginal suppositories?

You might also want to see your doc and have your thyroid levels checked. Do it as a precaution. I figure it's your BC but one never knows; maybe you have developed another problem. The weight gain and fatigue are contributing factors.

Could you get your appointment moved up?  Especially with all the other side effects, I think I'd want to get this looked at.

Are you really getting migraines or are you just saying migraine when you mean a bad headache?  Migraines are pain on one side of the head with sensitivity to light, sound or smell (among other symptoms).

If you really are getting migraines often (more than once a week, all throughout your cycle), then your doctor needs to know and will want to pull you from dual birth control because you are a stroke risk.  I'm not trying to scare you, but I am telling you the truth in the chance that you aren't exaggerating.

Yes, I experienced changes from taking my dual bcp, even after taking it for eight years.  My doctors were wonderful about helping me find a different pill.  Go chat with your doctor and find something that will work for you.

I went through this earlier this year. Just all of a sudden DH and I noticed a lot of weird things: low/no sex drive, irritability, hair falling out, mood swings, etc. We hadn't moved recently, I hasdn't switched BC, or any other life-changing things. I went to the doctor to get my hormones tested and she said I had the hormone levels "of an eighty seven year old lady."

Talk to your doctor about it and get your hormones checked out. Mine put me on an all-natural suppliment called Deproloft, and told me to change my diet. So far, so good. BUT low hormones can have a big role in you having kids or not. Low hormones = harder it is to carry a baby full-term.

Get it checked out pronto. GL!

Yes, migraines. I was told that I have "chronic migranes" due to a hormonal imbalance back when I was in my teens... they said it would level out in my 20s... stopped taking my rx a few years ago and everything was great up until the past year when they seemed to have returned... ugh.

I had the same problem. It started at 24 and my doc. and I spent a lot of time trying to figure it out. Have you gotten your thyroid checked...that can cause a lot of the things you have mentioned. Mine was okay when I got it checked which meant something was going on....still haven't figured it out but it's gotten better.

Gotcha.  Definitely call your doctor and tell them you're getting them.  I was removed from dual bcp pronto when I started getting migraines upwards of three times a week.

I have read that it is best to change up your birth control every 5 years since being on the same dosage for long periods, greater then 5 years can cause changes in hormones etc.  The best thing to do is talk to your doctor.

I had this same problem except mine started when I was 19. Come to find out I went to get my blood taken and my thyroid was off. You're thyroid can throw your body off in so many ways, have you gotten that checked?

I would definitely get bloodwork done even if it's not with your obgyn.

Unfortunately, this happens to more people than you think.  I am the same age, and had been on BC for 8 years.  We are now hormonal BC free, and use a mix of the diaphram and condoms.  I can honestly tell you that I feel 100% better! Feel like a whole new person. I've already told H that I will not be going back on any hormones for a long time, it just isn't worth it to feel that way.

Talk with your doctor on it. Since you have been on the same one for 8 years, they may have you try some different ones with different hormonal doses. Also ask about your thyroid. That could be a factor too.

Happened to me on Trinessa BCP along with frequent yeast infections and when I stopped taking them and no longer on any birth control, I felt much better.

This recently happened to me. My doctor upped my hormonal level on my BC because i was having spotting throughout the month and then i turned into some crazy women. So my hubby and i decided i would stop taking the pill for a while and see how it goes.
