Best European City to Fly To

We are looking at taking a a trip to Europe sometime next spring which is only in a few months so we don' t have much time to price hunt. For those who have traveled to Europe what city do you think had the cheaper flights? For instance is it cheaper just to fly from the US to London and then make arrangements to visit the other countries from there?

Thanks for your help ladies!

Have you looked at a map of Europe? England is an island. If you want to visit London, then fly there. Otherwise, you'll have to take the Chunnel to Paris, and then you've only made it as far as France.

Where do you want to visit? Most international airports have good flight deals to Paris and Amsterdam (and BIG hub for Europe, the middle east, and Africa). You may also get a decent deal to somewhere in Italy (like Rome), or maybe Munich. The airline websites let you search! Kayak also has a great 'explore' feature where you enter your home city, the month you'll travel, and then it'll give you flight estimates. It's a great feature when you don't know where you really want to go.

In most cases you'll find the best deals on a direct flight, especially when the airline has a sale. Look your nearest airports up on Wikipedia and find out what European cities there are direct flights to, and then watch those airlines for sales.

Otherwise, just figure out where you really want to go and set up a fare alert at someplace like kayak.

I think you should figure out a few places you'd be interested in and then price them out.  I went to southern Spain a couple years ago and recently priced it out again and it was about $1200 per person for airfare from NYC and hotel for 7 nights on the beach. From that location, you can take day trips to Gibraltar, Morocco and other parts of Spain.  It's one of my favorite vacations.

Travel Zoo will show you deals from larger US cities to European locations.  That might be a start in finding a cheap flight for a starting off point then you can plan from there.

One of the nice things about travelling in Europe is that you can find cheap flights from many of the cities to others (so flying into London wouldn't actually be all that bad).  The unfortunate thing is that you wouldn't be able to have much luggage as it does cost to pay for that, unless you luck out.  What I would do is figure out where you want to go and see what flghts are there first...travel time is worth money.

England is an ISLAND? NOooooooooo....

Come on. Really?  just because someone hasn't had the opportunity to travel does not mean that they have never looked at a map. Rude.
