'cause I hate it: Post your worst 'team work' experience here.

I once was a designated group leader in a team that included a person whose personal and cultural beliefs did not jive with working with women, much less being in a team led by  woman. He pulled things like delete slides out of group presentations that I was about to give, lied about having done work/followed certain protocols that he didn't, etc.

I am determined to work only in environments where team work is kept to a minimum and every individual must contribute for themselves.

I once had a partner on a project where we had to recommend a strategy for a close-to-failing company. The paper had a section on background info on the company and analysis of the companies' strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threat, etc...well this partner had that section of the paper and she essentially copied and pasted text from datamonitor reports, and other similar, easily accessible sources and tried to pass it as her own...I re-wrote everything and turned it in. I didn't turn her in, but I should have.

Too bad you weren't his boss.  You could have fired him.

Team projects are the worst.  In grad school, I was in a group of 4 including another American woman and 2 male foreign students (English was their second language).  At our first meeting, they TOLD me and the other female student that we would be doing the entire presentation since we spoke English better.  We're talking a 30+ minute presentation...I don't think so.  They weren't happy with us, but they did end up pulling their own weight.

Hmm... most of the guys in my office are scared of me. They know that if they buck my authority, I'll threaten to sabotage them. I don't get mad, I get even.

That is very similar to my worst experience. This man did not like that I was leading the group. He was from another country so I attributed it to cultural/personal difference. He didn't do anything malicious, but he was very rude to me, discredit anything I proposed, and told me I didn't know anything. We had a group meeting in a computer lab and I took my husband (then bf) with me, not knowing this guy was going to be an ass. He saw this guy disrespecting me and almost let him have it.

In undergrad, I had a group that I usually did team work with, if I could. We got along great. In grad school, most people were from other countries so I ended up doing most of the work because they couldn't write English well. I didn't mind do it and knowing I would get a good grade but I wish my school evaluated people more on their writing skills before acceptance.

It was three of us and we split up the paper into equal parts.  I got the copy from the guy and was SHOCKED that he was admitted to our college (highly competitive liberal arts school).  There are various ways writing can be bad, but if I had shown you this paper you would assume it was a 9th grader.

The other woman and I had to chose to rewrite his section because he clearly didn't have the chops.

My worst team experience is at work right now.  I have a hyper-sensitive co-worker who thinks I am after her job.  So anything I do on building up our GIS system she has to be the lead on because GIS is her job.  She has no project management or time management skills.  So for the 3rd time in a year, we have a professional paper that we already have an extension for that we are 2 business days from it being due and I have none of her analysis work to write.  And she's doing teh same darn thing - ohh, I'll work this weekend, we can change it before the poster is dues, this is just a draft, etc.  Drives me flippin' bonkers.
