Speaking from experience, this can be difficult to do!!

Great book by the way, "The Baby Book" by William and Martha Sears.

Re: *~*~*amyfelice*~*~*

Wow, you rock! I have done it once!

but I did meet with my pediatrician and I wanted to know what happens if my baby gets sick, who can I call? Is it 24 hours? Do they have same day sick visits during the week? Would I see my own doc or someone else in the practice (if so, may want to meet other providers)? Do they have any weekend hours for sick visits?

Do they have priveleges (?spelling) at the hospital that you are planning to deliver at, or if you have not decided, which hospital they do have priveleges at so it may help you decide. And then of course if they would have someone see the baby in the hospital within 24 hours of birth.

How soon would they see your baby after it is born in the office?

If you have any non-traditional beliefs, you may want to find out where he/she stands on those issues. Maybe you are interested in the more prolonged, spread out vaccine schedule, or maybe you are interested in trying complementary medicine if the need arises (acupuncture, herbs, etc). Some physicians are supportive but have little knowledge of those things (like me) and some are downright against it.

If you care about electronic medical records, you could ask about that. Most offices are trying to move towards it, but not all have accomplished that goal yet. We are even moving in that direction.

And of course if they accept your insurance, as a preferred provider or if you will have to send in your own claims and hope for the best. If your family has multiple plans it may help you decide which one to put the LO on.

Those would be the essentials. I can't think of anything else that would be crucial.
