I think it's because there is no space between towns anymore, and there are so mNy houses developed that it's hard to use natural boundaries as city/ county lines. I had a friend who had a house half in menlo park half in atherton. My mailing address was Palo alto growing up, but attended menlo park schools. It's all convuluted. Oh and sm23 the richmond borders Stupify me. As I drive up 80 I go through my town, Richmond, san Pablo, then I'm back in Richmond again ?! Soo weird.

This is a problem in a lot of towns, where city lines zig zag (and unincorporated county lines just make it even more complicated!) We live in unincorporated Richmond, but our next door neighbors are in El Cerrito. There's a street down the hill where the line between Richmond and El Cerrito intersects certain houses - so those people are zoned with two parcels and pay double taxes! Imagine that. You'd think cities and counties would figure out a way to clean all this up.

The same thing is going on at my FIL's house, Celyn. His house is in Los Gatos but his cottage is in Saratoga all on the same property. Weird!

Campbell is very strangely shaped and zoned. The house I grew up in is on a street that is in Campbell, so it has a Campbell address, but the house itself is built on the other side of the city line in SJ. It's not even a big property.

I do know that our street has been Campbell in the past and has switched once or twice. Apparently there are several unincorported "pcokets" surrounding Campbell. And these pockets neighbor Campbell streets and "make sense" to be a part of Campbell.

This is the first I've heard of all this but I guess it's been set in motion for 2+ years.
