My hair dresser who I've been going to for the last 5 years has decided to work out of her home, which is too far from me, so I'm on the hunt to find someone new. She was super cheap ($30) which was nice since I have short hair and need to get a cut every 5 weeks. Looking for a hair salon suggestion in the Braintree/Weymouth area. Someone that might have good prices and/or is great at cutting short hair. Thanks in advance!

I'm sending my dad some money (I mentioned him acting like a child in the "venting" post from yesterday). I told my mom I'm doing it (they are divorced) and she is really mad. I feel so awful and guilty on both sides. I feel bad that my dad is struggling so badly. I feel bad that my mom feels like I'm giving him a hand out when everyone else is working so hard. Just sucks.

I probably shouldn't have told my mom, but I didn't want it to get back to her. I wish I always knew what the right thing to do was. It's not like we're swimming in a vault of money either, this is a big deal for DH & me. I'm also dreading that my dad is taking advantage of me (more so than he already is) and he's not going to use the money for what he said he is and I'll feel like a tool.

Sorry for such a lame post on a Friday afternoon.

Just got a phone call from one of my contacts and a position they thought they had filled opened up again. It's not the ideal position for me, but it's a position.

I have to go in and meet yet more people next week but it's more a formality than anything. Please keep your fingers crossed for me--I'm ready to end this saga.

Our elliptical is arriving just in time for Thanksgiving :P

I need to look at the positive side of life too.

For me, it's the basics: I'm grateful for my health, the health of my family and loved ones, having great friends (and especially having been able to keep up with the friends we left behind on the west coast), and being able to afford the roof over our heads even though we're just living off of DH's income now. I'm better off than a lot of people and I try not to forget it.

Dog groomer poll

We don't have any big weekend plans, which is amazing. I'll probably make the pumpkin spice cake balls for Thanksgiving so I don't have to do it at night next week.

PSA: found a way around the PM response problem

Instead of hitting the Reply link at the top left of the post, hit the Quick Reply link at the bottom right. It's not as user friendly as the Reply link because a window shows up that floats over the original message, but you could always type up your reply in Word or something if you want to be able to see the original as you respond and then C&P into the Quick Reply window. Anyway, at least there's some kind of work-around.

I have two issues:

(1) I am so freaking sick of this job hunting process and my horrible, no good, rotten bad luck. I got up at 3:30am yesterday to catch a 5:10am train to NY for a day of interviewing. Once there, I felt like they didn't ask me particularly compelling questions, which leads me to believe they're not serious about bringing me on board and only did the interviews because their colleagues that I met in Boston pushed them to meet me. On top of that, I was basically told that though they do want to hire someone it probably won't happen until January. This is the third or fourth opportunity where I've gotten really far along in the process, people really like me, but I get screwed in the end by things out of my control like budget, regulatory issues, etc. AAAAARGH!!!

(2) I'm also getting really frustrated about this wedding I'm a bridesmaid in early next year. All the other bridesmaids are in the same town as the bride and they're not very good about keeping me in the loop on things; I get these e-mails that are like walking into the middle of a conversation. I've been pushing them since Sept. to make decisions about the shower and bachelorette since the wedding is the first weekend of Jan. I sent them all this info on doing a bachelorette party in NYC because they asked me to do the research, and then they give me no feedback so I thought that idea was out. Then yesterday I find out that they DO want to go to NYC and now are rushing to throw it together for a couple of weeks from now. WTF? I already made commitments for that weekend, they don't have any activities planned, and now everything is more expensive because it's so last minute.

On top of that they didn't even send me an invitation for the bridal shower this weekend. Granted I told them I couldn't fly out for it on top of flying for a bachelorette, but c'mon! Common courtesy says I should still be invited, IMHO. There's been a few other things that have happened too, but overall I'm just not particularly looking forward to this wedding anymore.

I need to find a Charm City Cake-esque bakery in the area to recreate Mike Wazowski from Monsters Inc. I contacted Charm City Cakes and they are asking $2,400 for the cake plus $175/hr for transportation!! If anybody knows any good bakeries in the area it would be greatly appreciated. TIA

The knot switched to the new format today. It's weird because it is sort of like the nest and the bump, but different. I don't know why they don't save themselves some trouble and just use the same template for all three.
