Dissertation Study on Interracial Marriage

I am NOT a solicitor nor am I a vendor.
I am an old Knottie/Nestie who is a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology. I am conducting my doctoral dissertation study on marital satisfaction in interracially married couples. Knowing the Knottie/Nestie community, I am hoping to receive some volunteers through advertising on the boards.

What is the purpose of this study?

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between interactional styles, religious beliefs, and social support on interracial marriage satisfaction. This study is an effort to better understand the experience of social support in interracial marriages and the impact it has on the satisfaction of the married partners.

Who can participate?

I am looking for volunteers to participate in this study. At this time, the study is limited to legally married, heterosexual, interracial couples. The interracial pairings that this study is specifically looking at are Black/White (with their long history of interracial coupling) and Asian/White (the fastest growing group of interracial marriages).

Volunteers must meet the following requirements to participate:

Must currently be in an interracial marriage. This study focuses on Black/White and Asian/White couples.
You must have been married for at least one year.
Both partners must be 18 years of age or older.
Both partners must speak fluent English.
Both partners must reside in the US.

What will be asked of me as a participant?

In order to carry out this study, volunteers will be asked to fill out a series of questionnaires that will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. These questionnaires ask questions about interaction, religion, social support, and relationship satisfaction. Both the husband and the wife must fill out the questionnaires and are asked to do so separately. Participants are asked to refrain from discussing the questionnaire until both partners have completed the study. Survey responses will be kept confidential and participants may choose to refrain from providing any identifying information.

How do I volunteer? Who do I contact?

To volunteer, please send an email to

You will receive a response asking some preliminary questions to ensure you and your spouse meet the requirements for participating in the study. If so, you will be given an ID code for you and your spouse, and the option to complete either an online questionnaire or have the questionnaire mailed to you. Questionnaire information and details of participating in the study will be provided to those that volunteer

What do I gain from volunteering?

While there are no individual benefits from participating in this study, your involvment will assist in deepening scientific understanding of factors that affect satisfaction in interracial marriages. Additionally, upon completion of the questionnaires, you may choose to enter into a drawing for one of two $50 gift certificates to either Target or Crate and Barrel. This drawing will be open to all participants in this study and is voluntary.

I happened to run into Macys at the mall this afternoon to pick something up for DH only to find that the store has stopped carrying Men's activewear. Not one pair of exercise clothing for men is left in the store and I was told that they did away with that whole men's department! What! The whole thing just seemed really wierd to me and I wanted to share my dismay. . . .

I have some questions. H and I are considering moving to the Boise area at the end of this school year. I have family that moved there a few years ago and love it and frankly, we need to live in an area that isn't as expensive. So, they live in Nampa...I actually kind of like it there, and we are going to go there for 4 days in October to scope it out. Right now we live in SLC and while we like it, it just doesn't have the "feel" we are looking for. I don't even really know how to explain what that feel is. We moved from Ohio where it is a lot more community oriented.

But my number one question is, around the Boise area, what are the options for fly fishing. I know....it is stupid, but it is one of H's hobbies and he doesn't want to move to a place that doesn't have accessability. So if you can give me any info, that would be great!

I was interested in finding out more about the area and how the job market looks and how the rental and buying markets are.

After 16 hours of labor I had a C-section. she just wasn't dropping, no wonder. and she was faced foward so it would have been a very difficult delivery. My advice would be listen to the information about c-sections and ask questions early because once the decision is made they move very fast. Good luck!

Hi Everyone! I know that I haven't been on the board for awhile now and have missed many of the checkins and the recent introduce yourself posts so here is one of my own.

My name is Stephanie and DH and I moved here from Seattle at the end of December because of cost of living and because he got a job offer that is great for him career-wise that he just couldn't turn down. DH is a CPA working for a public accounting firm downtown. That being said, as of now he is still the only person I know in Idaho and while I love him dearly I'm getting desperate for some companionship.

We purchased our first home when we moved here so there has been quite a learning curve for us with regard to home maintenance and care and everything else, but we love having our own home. As of yet we have no children and I think that we are planning to wait at least one more year before trying, as I'd like to get started on a career path.

I am an attorney and right now my days are spent studing for the Idaho Bar Exam (yuck, yuck, yuck!!!) since my license in WA is not reciprocal for another year. And I have no job waiting in the wings so if anyone knows or hears of anything I'd very, very much appreciate hearing about everything and anything. And yes, that makes me sound desperate, but some days that is how I feel.

Anyway, I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to all of you and am looking forward to meeting and getting to know some of you! :)

Taking the Pet Plunge

DH and I have decided to take the pet plunge and get a dwarf rabbit. she is really cute and we are picking her up on Friday after work. We decided that after being together for 5 years ( married for almost 2years) We needed to either have a baby or a pet. but since neither of us are ready for the big B in our lives. we chose a small furry adoreable cuddly cute puff of fur. we have no name for her but I know that this will be fun.

Any one else in this boat of new pet parenthood? Any advice?
