"Baby on Board" signs do not make me drive any differently. However, if I saw a "Republican on Board" sign, I might try to rear-end them so I could knock some sense into them.

Wow - once again I am surprised at how wound up MM gets about something I thought was fairly innocuous. I don't think I have seen one of those signs in a long time, but when I do, I really don't think about it much. Doesn't change the way I drive, but I certainly don't think someone is a d-bag or thinks his/her life is more valuable.

I do not get the hate. People put all kinds of stuff on their cars. If I saw the sign I would be at least be aware of the potential for young children to be jumping out of the car. Or give up a parking space or something if I could. grab their empty shopping cart and push it back for them.

I would not do this for a fish.

When I see a baby on board sign, I take it as more of a warning that they're probably distracted by said baby and going to drive like idiots.

This thread is like the Rorscharch, OMFG, the best ever. I have two kids and I think the signs are a a complete sign of the failure of our society. Along with the the family stick figures, nothing else could make me want to be an ex pat.

Bad news re: your expat plans: where we live in Europe, "Baby an Bord" signs and family stick ons are alive and well. The most popular ones (and the ones that coincidentally annoy me the most) are stick ons of each kid with their name that say, "On Tour" like, "Jonas, On Tour" "Annika, On Tour" or whatever. So stupid.

I see those signs all the time (maybe its a Canadian thing?) and I just try to pass them as quickly as possible because they tend to be distracted or driving freakishly slow.

And to actually comment on the situation - I eye roll at those signs. Not in a "I think my kids life means more than yours" way. They're just silly. I do get that the intent was more likely in the realm of "I don't care how stupid I look if it gets my kid a slightly better chance of surviving my driving." Seeing how I'm now a mommy martyr and all. ;)

Gavel. My H was Stupid to believe people's driving habits change due to yellow signs. That is what I have been telling him.

And i meant he doesnt follow as close when he sees the sign. Not tailgate.

The baby was not on board. But she would have been fine, there was not that much damage after the back bumper. He might have mild whiplash, but he thinks it is the power of suggestion and he will be fine tomorrow.

I still cant believe she drove off. Dummy.

I'm sorry your husband was in a car accident, but his comments about the sign are ridiculous.

I totally drive differently when I see a car with a baby on board sign. I assume the driver is distracted akin to one who is talking on a cell phone. I try to stay as far away as possible lest I be in an accident caused by the baby on board driver. Drivers with kids in the car can be the worst. Not a scientific study I know, but two of the three accidents I've been in have been caused by parents who were looking over their shoulder at their kids instead of the road ahead of the,

I had a whole long explanation about how the Snopes rumor being untrue doesn't preclude what I said, but you're so damn rude I'm not even wasting my time.

No, yeah- the actual snopes rumor had nothing to do with what you said but had you read further you would see the provided the factual origin of the signs (which was echoed on a bunch of other links off the google machine) which all said they did not start as a way to alert emergency personnel and they were, most certainly, started to alert other drivers of the presence of a kid.
I'm sorry you misunderstood that- I should have been more clear.

I interpreted the buzzer sound as being very rude, and sorry if that was not how it was meant.

Whenever I see one of those Baby on board signs, I translate it in my head to smug self-righteous idiot on board.

I have hated them since I was a child. They are stupid.
