We did a 5 K (which is obviously much shorter) and I trained for like 4 months to try to run half of it.

H decided to do it like a month before the race and has not workout in years. I kept my mouth shut. He did it. I congratulated him.

I agree with Liz and Mo. You voiced your opinion - let him try and just support him.

Re: XP WDYT?

Thanks Mo and Liz. I think I am going take your advice and keep my mouth shut from now on about it. There's not much more I can do without sounding like an annoying nag.

Re: XP WDYT?

I totally get where you are coming from. I don't think it's a good idea either, but you've expressed your opinion, and he has to decide for himself. I think the more you press him on this, the more he will want to do it.
Re: XP WDYT?

Well, I can tell you that CNR wouldn't like this response, but you know me better than she does.

WW, I think you need to let him make the decision for himself. If he runs and is successful, then you can congratulate him. If he runs and is not successful, you can sympathize with him. Don't set yourself up in this situation as to telling him he should or shouldn't. I think that as an individual, he has to make his choices and then suffer the consequence whether they be good or bad.

The ultimate outcome of this, is that you and he aren't in an argument and he isn't feeling like you're trying to mother him.

Personally, I agree with you, but I'm not running one moment let alone 9.3 miles.

Good luck on your run, and focus on your accomplishments. If both of you reach the finishline, then you are a family of success.

XP WDYT?

I posted this on Health & Fitness too, but I want to know what you girls think. Am I being ridiculous?

My DH has decided he wants to run this 15K with me. As you can see in my ticker, it is in one week. My dad is already running it with me. Normally I would love for him to, but he hasn't been training the way my dad and I have. He's been running for the past month or so with me but never more than 3-4 miles. He hasn't gone on any long runs with me.

He's in pretty good shape, but I really don't want him to injure himself. I told him that, but he is so stubborn and almost takes it as a challenge like I'm saying he can't do it. I think he could do it, but I just don't want him to get hurt. I have had shin splints before, and I know how not fun they are. In fact, they are what turned me off to running for quite a few years. Maybe I am overreacting. WDYT?

Also, I will admit that part of the reason I am kind of irritated is that I have been working on this for so long and he just flippantly decides he wants to do it like it's nothing. I need to get over that, but I still think it's a bad idea to just up and run 9.3 miles when you haven't gone more than 4 in years.
