Moving to Denver (area)

We are moving to the Denver area from Northern Virginia in the next couple of months.  DH will be working near Littleton.  We're hoping to find a 3 bedroom townhouse to rent in a family-friendly neighborhood, no more than 20 minutes one way to work.  We'd love to have trails nearby and some shopping/restaurants in walking distance.  Does anyone have tips on neighborhoods we should search?  Any other advice or great things about the area we should know?  Thanks!!

Much to her dismay, the stork did not bring Sarah a pony.

Well, when you say working near Littleton but he wants a 20 min commute that could be lots of different areas.  Is he working for Lockheed?  In that case you'd want the SW part of Jefferson County which uses Littleton post offices for mailing purposes, or western Littleton proper.  From south Lakewood, he could get there via C-470 in 20 min.  Otherwise if that is not where he is working it depends on the direction of traffic correlating to the time of day he works amongst other things like weather.

I have a good friend in NoVa (Fairfax) I just went to see last month.  You will LOVE not having the humidity here!

I use to live in Fairfax! I loved the area :)

KenCaryl Ranch is a nice burb area in littleton - it's kind of the 1st Highlands Ranch but didn't grow as gigantic as H.R. did (I'm a little partial to KC Ranch for that reason). Though they both have good school systems.

What part of NoVA are you from?  I grew up in Herndon and moved here about 3 years ago.  As much as I miss the trees back east, the weather here is SOOOOO much better.  LOL  I love the dry air here.  :)

My IL's used to live in KenCaryl Ranch.  They liked it.  It seems to be a nice area.  I dont' know much about south of town since i live out by the airport.

Welcome!  It would be helpful to know what part of Littleton, as Littleton is rather large!  We used to live in Littleton and I worked in Littleton, and it took me 40-45 minutes to get to work.  I can recommend some good areas if you can say where exactly in Littleton he'll be working :)

He'll be at the Lockheed facility in Littleton. I think that falls in the southwest part?

If he's at Lockheed, I'd start looking in Highlands Ranch and SW Jefferson County/Littleton as well as Ken Caryl.  Most places in Highlands Ranch will be less than a 20 minute commute to Lockheed.   I'm not sure if there are any townhouses in Roxborough, but I don't think that would be too far from Lockheed.  If you're searching rentals, I'd use Mapquest to look up the address to see how far it is from Lockheed. We found that really helpful when we were looking for houses.  Good luck!

Roxborough (that's where I live) would be the best area, but everything in that area is a single family home.  However, there are some great rental opportunities available.

Otherwise, try Ken Caryl, Columbine, Powderhorn, or "old Littleton" for good locations.  You could also look in the Westridge part of Highlands Ranch.

A good rule of thumb would be to stick on the c-470 area between Broadway and Quincy.
