post partum hair loss

Anyone victimized? I have had large amounts of hair coming out for the past week and am starting to get worried at the amount. When does it stop? Anything I can do to prevent it? I am trying to wash my hair less but that's difficult when it's curly and needs reviving post bed head....

Also a victim of that!  It seemed to last for a few months, and it was horrible.  I didn't go bald though, so you'll be okay.   My hairdresser said it's totally normal, and you just have to let it run it's course.   Getting regular haircuts seemed to help also.

YES YES YES!  I lost SO MUCH hair for like 6 months after I had Nate.  I couldn't believe I wasn't bald.  It finally did just stop.  Now it's starting to grow back so I have these weird whispy short pieces.  SO ANNOYING.  I didn't really do anything different- I have to wash every day or my hair gets greasy, so I just dealt with it.  I was careful about too much brushing and I used products with minimal alcohol so it didn't dry out my hair more.

Good luck, it is annoying!!

I had this.  And it doesn't go away quickly.  I think mine started around 3 month PP and lasted almost 4-5 more.  I seriously thought I would be bald after I showered.  But it eventually stopped.  And like someone else said, I had these new whispy pieces, especially around my face that took awhile to grow out.

It's totally normal and very upsetting!  Mine lasted from 4 months to 8 months.  And actually the little whispy pieces of hair around my face were worse as it was growing back in.  It will still come out whether you wash it or not, so I wouldn't change your habits.  Your body held onto hair it normally would have shed during pregnancy because of the hormonal changes.  So now it is "letting go" of that hair it held on to.

One thing I miss from being PG is not loosing any hair in the shower or in my brush. Like the others said, it is normal and you can't stop it.  Mine seems to be tapering off some finially!

I had a lot of thick hair before I was pregnant and didn't notice much difference while I was pg (it was summer so my hair was always puffy and bigger anyway).  A couple months after having DD, my hair was falling out like crazy, now 2 years later it's a lot thinner than it ever was.  My hairdresser (who's cut my hair since I was little) even commented about how I have about half the hair I used to.

I think you normally just lose the "extra" hair your body keeps during pregnancy.  It will stop.

Oh goodness.  Now I have to worry about this too? I haven't noticed anything yet, but then I always lose a good bit of hair. It's so thick though that it doesn't make a difference.
