My dh and I are doing what we can to "go green" as it were. I posted on Money Matters (Saving money by living green) and you can find some info there including a laundry detergent recipe that I'm excited to try.
Also, check out pixieprincss' blog. She has mass info available and some great ideas.
I also like the website www.thegreenguide.com It has a lot of household information available.
My big caveat against products like Seventh Generation and Method, etc. Is that you still have to buy the product and all of the packaging that goes with it. . While a lot of the packaging is recyclable, it still takes energy to get the items recycles so I do what I can to reduce packaging all together. Making your own soaps and cleaners can help in this (and save you big bucks). And I've been working on not purchasing items that come in containers that aren't recyclable (like the eggs that come in styrofoam containers. no good)
We've also made our home more energy efficient by using CFL's, less water, less hot water, we're going to start air drying our laundry, My DH bikes to work, I'm getting ready to and have gotten our car driving down to about 10 miles a week (the average american drives around 220 miles a week I found out) and we're working on installing the aerators for the faucets and shower heads. We use reusable shopping bags and pixieprincss showed how to make your own produce bags as well, which I'm going to do.
I've had several reccomendations for the Diva Cup (haven't tried it but I want to) as a way to get rid of pad/tampon use. We don't have kids yet, but I would be interested in seeing what options are available for diapers when we have one. I read an article on MSN about using cloth diapers and was surprised at the outcome. http://lifestyle.msn.com/your-life/living-green/articleab.aspx?cp-documentid=8327136 See what you think.
Good luck!
