vinegar mixed with water is a good cleaner, so is baking soda, etc.

I like Mrs. Meyers and Method for cleaners.

http://www.thenestbaby.com/stages/stage.aspx?stage=months06&ForumID=562 is the eco-friendly family- they have excellent advice on going green there, but much of the conversation is cloth diapers:)

Sam Emerson: Got a problem, guys?
Edgar Frog: Just scoping your civilian wardrobe.
Sam Emerson: Pretty cool, huh?
Alan Frog: For a fashion victim.

There are more and more green products in the stores lately, so they will be easy to find.  You can also make your own with vinegar, water, dish soap, etc.  I like the Seventh Generartion products a lot.  I also use a few Method products, but noticed only a few work well and Seventh Generation is more green than Method.  If you would like some homemade recipes I can send you an email of mine for window cleaner, multi-purpose cleaner, furniture polish, detergent, etc.  Let me know!

I a huge fan of baking soda & vinegar. I use Method products or Seventh Generation, whatever's on sale. I do NOT use Seventh Generation's laundry products though - they make me & DH itch like crazy!

I ready flylady.net and it helped me get on a cleaning schedule by creating a control journal.

I was a pretty unorganized person before I put this all together and it has helped SO much!

HTH!

I use vinegar and water to clean pretty much everything. I also like the book Organic Housekeeping. It has a lot of helpful hints on cleaning.

I've used Seventh Generation and a couple of other natural brands at Whole Foods for my laundry. They all work great--I've never ever had an itch problem from Seventh laundry soap. Seventh is very environmentally friendly, and it's less chemicals coming into contact with your skin. The Seventh brand is usually HE for high-efficiency washers; it's more concentrated and you're supposed to use less. Maybe the person who experienced itching used too much, and the extra soap irritated their skin. It works great for me in my HE washing machine.

I've only found Seventh Generation products at Whole Foods. Target carries an okay selction of Method products. I like the Method hand soap, but I pretty much use Seventh Generation for all of my other soap needs. Good luck going green!

My dh and I are doing what we can to "go green" as it were.  I posted on Money Matters (Saving money by living green) and you can find some info there including a laundry detergent recipe that I'm excited to try.

Also, check out pixieprincss' blog.  She has mass info available and some great ideas.

I also like the website www.thegreenguide.com  It has a lot of household information available.

My big caveat against products like Seventh Generation and Method, etc.  Is that you still have to buy the product and all of the packaging that goes with it. .  While a lot of the packaging is recyclable, it still takes energy to get the items recycles so I do what I can to reduce packaging all together.  Making your own soaps and cleaners can help in this (and save you big bucks).  And I've been working on not purchasing items that come in containers that aren't recyclable (like the eggs that come in styrofoam containers. no good)

We've also made our home more energy efficient by using CFL's, less water, less hot water, we're going to start air drying our laundry, My DH bikes to work, I'm getting ready to and have gotten our car driving down to about 10 miles a week (the average american drives around 220 miles a week I found out) and we're working on installing the aerators for the faucets and shower heads.  We use reusable shopping bags and pixieprincss showed how to make your own produce bags as well, which I'm going to do.

I've had several reccomendations for the Diva Cup (haven't tried it but I want to) as a way to get rid of pad/tampon use.  We don't have kids yet, but I would be interested in seeing what options are available for diapers when we have one.  I read an article on MSN about using cloth diapers and was surprised at the outcome. http://lifestyle.msn.com/your-life/living-green/articleab.aspx?cp-documentid=8327136 See what you think.

 Good luck!

"Gorgeously Green" by Sophie Uliano is the best book for going green!! She has so much information in there including checklists, websites, everything. And it's all broken down by chapter on different parts of your life so it's not so overwhelming! Good luck!! =)
